***Official Glenavon v Hearts Match Thread***

Yes, it’s only a friendly match and the results are meaningless, but for the players it shouldn’t be. Pre-season games Give certain players a chance to try put their foot in the starting 11 and show the manager what they can do. Not exactly great getting beat by such a poor standard of opposition.

It’s still all about fitness and today’s result means nothing. I’ll judge them on Friday night against Dundee Utd.

So this week is it ”Levein Out” or ”Its just a friendly so the win means **** all” ?

When was the last time we suffered three defeats at a weekend? Better win the Beith game now?

St Johnstone also got beat last week by Edinburgh City. Should we take that as Edinburgh City are good enough for the top flight just now? Would Arbroath be ahead of them in the top flight given their results?

Pre-season friendly results mean nothing.

Our results in friendlies during CL's first spell were also poor. However we regularly made good starts to the season. All about the competitive games.

It doesn’t mean much apart from we really need Haring, Smith, Berra, Walker and Naismith back for the meaningful games. There’s half our first eleven right there.

the likes of Bozanic, Edwards etc are back up players at best but we know this.

Answer him. You've said more about the game than any other. Tell us about the game, what did you see?

Otherwise please zip it.

Until you even go to 1 game your opinion means jack shit pal!!

What happens if 3 or 4 of these probable starters get injured?

One is already injured and couldn’t play today.

Our squad depth is dreadfully weak and it needs addressed before the season starts.

A better question would be what if you stopped posting on here? I can safely say the board would be a better place.

So, let me see if I understand this:  We have lost to injury someone who was intended to be a key playmaker next season, without him having kicked a ball in anger, or even in friendship.

Am I the first to predict: it's going to be a long, hard, fruitless season?...

Mad everybody oot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hickey is a 16 year old who has started 2 competitive games. And we're a weaker team without him??  Even Levein wouldn't use that as an excuse.

I know had to laugh at that as well

Guy behind me at Murrayfield was going crazy at hearts players for not closing down players etc....  we were playing Barcelona.

Think I had the same guy behind me at that game.

Raging that some people in the (non-segregated, mostly neutral) stadium were applauding Barca's second goal then stormed off home at HT leaving his wife and kid behind.

Friendly results mean absolutely nothing. Obviously if we lost 6-0 to a bunch of postmen questions would need to be asked but in general wins and loses in pre-season do not indicate F all.

The games are about fitness, working on shape etc. That is all.

1st time here? You've certainly picked up the terminology very quickly if so. Also, arguing with the same posters as the other negative mob.

I wasn’t at the game to give player ratings but you knew that.

all my comments Frank highlights were not based on today’s game but a general observation of the shitshow I watched every week from January until May. Barring the comment about us being more competitive second half today which I assumed from someone else’s comment who was there that we did a lot better second half in terms of competing.

Do you see enough of the games to comment on where you think our midfield is at and how many goals we tend to score?

It would be refreshing to discuss the team without the same posters having the same goes at each other.

Every fekin thread.

Yes it was a friendly.

And the competitive games are what counts.

Still has to be admitted that we look weak .

I'm sick of hearing about Naismith missing.

At his stage of his career we really need to not rely on him.

On paper we are desperate for some pace and guile .

Most of them were bullied as children and see trolling as getting their own back on the world. Lives the size of ping pong balls more than a few on here have.

No, I didn't know that. You sounded as if you were at the game. You seemed very keen to let us know the state of the team.

Empty vessels, eh kid?

Yes, I tend to get to watch 90% of the games, or thereabouts. Honestly, just like you I'm no master tactician. I do sense a lack of urgency and clear, direct decision making in the final 3rd. I'd love to see us be a team that is aggressive, go hunting for the ball.

Tbh you do raise good points.

It's just I've read them an awful lot.

I'm concerned as you are after last seasons ending.

The pace of the team has still not been addressed as far as I can see.

Need to wait on competitive games .

All we have learned from the friendlies is that Shelbourne are absolutely gash.

Friday will hopefully give us a better idea of where we stand.

Naismith was a big loss last season but now we know how much we struggled without him it has to be fixed before this coming season.  Last season we were unlucky to lose him but this season we’ll have no excuses if we crumble without him.

It’s probably why Walker was brought in, he can play in behind the striker if Naismith is injured but it’s risky when he is prone to injury himself.

At last we agree on how we both want the team to play.

But the question is can we get the players in to do that. Walker, Clare, Cochrane are not they types.

I would say we need to get at least 2 more midfielders in or we will continue to struggle in that area.

Big boots to fill mate.

Naismith managed on the pitch and helped other players see the moves to be made.

We need a captain like him.

No disrespect to Berra he has marshalled the defence well apart from a dip in form.

Haring is ok .

Does anyone see Souttar in a midfield role btw ?

I agree we have to wait until the competitive games.

Maybe the team  will surprise us all and come out the traps flying.

I just don’t see it. We have a bad habit of losing running through the club and barring Naismith I don’t see the characters there to change it.

Hickey could easily be our first choice left back by the end of the campaign. Fully expect him and White to play half our games each.

Its ruining this forum.
