I think the prefabs that you mention when that photo was taken were already well passed their expected life expectancy. I’m sure they (see photo) were the last prefabs in Glasgow to be demolished HOWEVER that was not until around 1994!! I remember being amazed at them on my first visits to Hampden!

I stayed in a pefab in Sighthill they were good in the day ( gas fridge and movable shelves in metal cupboards) also built with bathrooms.

Remember there was a lot at Sighthill now Wester Hailes and quite a few in the Pilton area!

At the time no one knew about asbestos so everyone loved living in them.

In which case, you’d have been better spending the money on lottery tickets.

All you're doing is handing over money in order to be first in the queue to hand over money.  It works well when the product is oversubscribed like tickets for Wimbledon or Lord's.  Not so much when you are watching football in Scotland.

Saying that, the original 500 Club was really a debenture scheme but not named as such.

And now you can have a lovely modern pre-fab without the asbestos and save a fortune on the cost of building your house.  They call them Kit houses nowadays.  Those prefabs were better to live in than the high rise blocks which replaced them as the answer to post-War housing demands.  Just goes to show that change isn't always for the better.

There was a rather large queue outside the main stand at full time the day. Could have been for the bar/shop.

But it could also have seen a few more shifted out the door.

Need to break the East End of Hampden hoodoo.

Can anyone remember us winning when we've been housed at that end?

I'm not really superstitious but you start noticing these things!

Gretna? They were housed over by the corner near the ambulance tunnel if I remember correctly and we had the bulk of the area behind the goal.

Does anyone know if there will be any segregation for the fans at Haymarket?

Just wondered if they'd maybe send one set of fans down Dalry/ Gorgie Road way and the others down Haymarket Terrace towards the Roseburn Bar?

Just a thought

Could they not run special trains for the tic fans off at Edinburgh Park Station then onto Trams, rather than have them near haymarket.

Likely a logistic nightmare I guess

This is what PS issued last year before the Aberdeen game at Murrayfield, expect a similar one mid week

Hearts Vs Aberdeen travel and safety advice

Published 06 September 2017

Police in Edinburgh are providing travel and safety advice to all fans attending the Hearts vs Aberdeen match this weekend.

With Tynecastle stadium still undergoing redevelopment, the SPFL sides are due to meet at Murrayfield Stadium at 3 p.m. on Saturday 9th September.

A policing operation will be in place on the day to assist stewarding staff with searches and spectators are reminded that drunkeness, as well as alcohol, fireworks, flares and weapons are strictly prohibited.

Anyone found to be drunk or in possession of these items will be refused entry to the ground and may face further police action.

A number of specialist police resources will be deployed before, during and after the match to deter criminal activity, manage traffic and keep the public safe.

Visiting fans should be advised that direct trains from Aberdeen to Edinburgh will stop at Haymarket train station. You are then advised to make your way west along Haymarket Terrace and West Coates, onto Roseburn Terrace and Corstorphine Road towards the stadium.

Aberdeen supporters will be directed to the North turnstiles, next to Murrayfield ice rink.Other trains from the north may stop at Edinburgh Gateway and fans can disembark here and take a tram to the Balgreen tram stop.

The Murrayfield and Roseburn areas are a ten-minute walk from this tram stop and there are a number of public houses and shops in this area.

Chief Inspector Gill Geany, Match Commander on the day said: "While an SPFL game at Murrayfield is rare, albeit the next two Hearts game will be at this location over the coming weeks, we are well-versed in policing sporting events at the stadium and will have suitable resources in place to keep all of those in attendance, as well as the wider public safe.

"Please be aware of the strict no alcohol, drunkeness, fireworks and weapons policy and remember that you will be subject to a search prior to gaining entry to the ground. Being drunk or in possession of any of these items at the match is a criminal offence.

"We also want to ensure that spectators are familiar with how to reach Murrayfield and would advise all of those travelling to the game to allow plenty of time for your journey.

" While the tram service is an excellent method of reaching the stadium, Aberdeen fans are advised not to use the tram to travel all the way to Murrayfield as the associated tram stop is some distance from the away fans entrance.

"If you arrive in Edinburgh city centre for the match then please consider walking, taking a taxi or utilising public transport, as there is no parking available around the ground."

If they were to get off the trams at Murrayfield that would be smack bang into where we enter the ground.

Every ticket sold past the Hampden capacity is a middle finger to the authorities who ardently doubted Murrayfield as a venue.

I hope it sells out.

A half full Hampden vs a full Murrayfield would be a kick in the stones for Doncaster and his cronies.

When the draw was originally made I wrote to Doncaster saying he had denied 10 of us the chance to see the game as we couldn't possibly travel home before 3.00 am.His secretary sent me  very nice email saying Neil hoped the new venue/KO time would suit us better. There are eight of us going for sure that couldn't have gone otherwise. I'm sure there are many more.

Just seen bobskeldons post above - :scenes:

A lot was made of the "excellent transport links" at Murrayfield during the national stadium, and while you cannot deny the tram stop is great, I suspect its more designed for a friendly rugby support than a divided football support. I actually think  one of the things that goes against Murrayfiield is there is no real way of segregating fans pre and post match.

The police separated fans and pubs when we played our games there - for instance Aberdeen is a fixture that has had bother in the past and it went without anything notable.  The Haymarket to Roseburn area is going to be all mhanks and everything towards Gorgie, obviously Hearts.

Trams are the only thing thing sharing the same route.  I've never been on one in Edinburgh so not an issue for me.

Any advice for two lads coming up from Newcastle.  Get the tram from Waverley pre match  ? Post match get the train from Waverley and avoid the unwashed at Haymarket ?

Going back they would be as well walking to Waverley as Haymarket will be heaving with the great unwashed, as you say.

Get off the train and onto a bus into Gorgie and have a pint or two there before walking to Murrayfield. Reverse of it on the way back.

My record attendance is 80,315 (Real Madrid vs Atlético de Madrid).

My dad was at the Scotland-England game in 1970, which drew 137,438, including about 3,500 forged tickets. He said there was enough room in the north enclosure to play five-a-side. That's the second- biggest postwar attendance in the UK after 143,570 (Rangers-Hibs semi-final in 1948).

there was very little segregation after the Cup semi final at Hampden in 2012. Train back from Mount Florida was very mixed and no trouble. Most people behave.

The 22 bus is basically door to door and misses haymarket by going along the approach road. Prob the best option if not pinting it in gorgie.

87,258 for me, Wembley for the Scotland game in November 2016.

Popped up to Tynecastle today to collect my online tickets for tomorrow night expecting one or two in the queue how wrong was I. There were circa 50 waiting in line and the same behind when I left - all good humoured and well done to the ticket office team who were doing a great job all things considered. To say there is a sea change in all things maroon this season is an understatement. Sellling three times as many tickets as Aberdeen is a powerful statement, matching Celtic’s travelling support man for man even more powerful hopefully the icing on the cake will be a win tomorrow and the same again on Sunday
