I take it this is before they painted it grey.

Green. Hence the nickname Green Godesses.

That's the word I was looking for, couldn't think what we called them.

Never see one nowadays. Like to much hard work for the modern bairn. Called a bogey through west.

Buccleuch Street with Archers Hall on left.

That fountain survived to the 1960's.

Some of the houses on the right are demolished I don't know why.

Just make out the John Menzies I remember just behind that Austin Montego and bus. Trying to think what's there now. I think Russell and Bromley is still there.

Is that it at Horne Terrace, if so across the road there was a shop, and we from Boroughmuir used to go into Aunties and get a Vantas at lunch time. Circa 1949.

Horne Terrace is a bit further up the hill, over the canal bridge.

What was a Vantas?

Correct, up the wee hill, over the canal bridge then turn right into horne terrace. Don't know if it's still there but there used to be a wee sign saying Thorneil Village on the way into horne terrace, a portmanteau of Thistle, Horne and McNeil, the three streets that make it up.

I never was brave enough to ask but it was a sort of water based fruit drink  that they hit with compressed air, it was the closest I could guess Kool Aid type drink.

No never had anything to do with it but knew the name well, seem to remember they had pretty good football teams.  My only real connections to the area were Boroughmuir and I worked as a petrol bot at the garage in Viewforth Terrace.  I used to carry any welding we needed done to Kenny Mcintosh's blacksmith shop in Horne Terrace, and there was a car body shop on the corner. I think it was something like Robertson and Gray, it was all sixty eight years ag  so memries are becoming a wee bit foggy.

Anybody got any pictures from inside the old tartan club on Dundee st. I used to play 5's there and on the odd occasion the hearts team would be after us training. Used to go up into the gantry and watch them train.
