Some of the cars on the forecourt are worth a fortune now, Mark 1 escorts in particular

Takes me back. Playing fitbaw in the street. Hardly any cars. Having to look out for the local Bobby coming round the corner on his bike. Grumpy neighbours not being happy if the ball ended up in their gardens, with the smallest player being delegated to sneak in and retrieve it when it did.

Great fun.

Snow ploughs have come a long way. This looks like something Inspector Closeau had when he was under cover as a telephone engineer

I will 100% be in that picture on the pitch somewhere, closing ceremony for the Commonwealth Games.

I was a volunteer driver taking the athletes and officials to the various venues, also done a lot of trips back and forward to Prestwick Airport, happy memories.

Used to love a cheeky sausage, bacon, egg, and chips from the Three Coins. Tea was always rotten though.

My school mates Mum and Dad had The Three Coins.

Nice people, one of those proper old school cafés that always seemed to be run by married couples.

The "Rat Trap"?

The only time I had anything to do with beer in there was when someone, later a prisoner had thrown some at me.

Did they move that statue when they built the shopping precinct as it looks like it's still in the same place ?

Always remember both uniformed and plain clothes CID popping into the Corn Exchange and always getting a wee drink , to keep them warm I was told . Strangely though the pub was never open at that point 🤷🏻‍♂️

It moved a few years ago, after the shopping centre was built. It moved quite a bit to her left so closer to the bingo and Duke Street.

Had a feeling the cheapskates would have built the precinct area around her !

It can't have moved that much as she is meant to be looking up the Walk

The pub itself was fine, it was the clientele in the main that brought it down.

You wouldn't get detectives going in if there was chance they would be asked to pay.

Where the woman is passing a set of steps is where the would be Edinburgh gangsters stood in their  "i am successful" Crombie coats. once in a while one of them would be wanted on a warrant, to low class a case for the CID, so they would advise the beat man. If they weren't on the steps there was a good chance they might be in the Rat Trap. You learn what an aggressive attitude is when you go in and execute a warrant in a place like that. Thats what made the job and working these areas fun.

Certainly looks like the New Victoria cinema down on the right, but not technically Newington, probably Clerk Street from about West Nicolson Street.
