The Don
The only reasonable way to judge how well or badly the SNP perform in elections is by looking at Scotland, its not difficult to work out why!! Cruyff Turn
Regardless of the election result today. The Tories should go into coalition with someone that is not the DUP, maybe the Liberals, they would balance out Brexit, austerity ect... govern as a minority or call another election, either way Theresa May should resign because she's made a complete arse of governing this Country. The DUP are so backwards the make UKIP look progressive. They should not and never should be allowed to be king makers in this coalition, whatever happened to "we don't negotiate with Terrorists". As for the SNP.Sturgeon should resign with immediate effect also. She's made an arse of things in this Country allowing a scenario to happen where the DUP could hold this Country to ransom and flare up the situation in N.Ireland where things are already looking grimm once again in Stormont. What a complete catastrophe. It all began with David Cameron having a game of soldiers with his back benchers on the EU and now Theresa May calling an election which she never took part in. It's a disgraceful state of affairs.

Brighton Jambo
Very short sighted in regards to your children and grand children. You admit it was selfish, I'd go further and say it was a vote with you in mind and not your family. The NHS, education and security service have been put at risk by the tories. This may well have a big impact on your children's and grand children's ability to further education and health. I , like my parents have also enjoyed a time of relative peace in Europe and freedom of movement. This is all at risk under the tories, not to mention job security and human and workers rights that we have all enjoyed. Your children might not have these as they are now. If you are wealthy and kids were at private school and you can afford private medical care for you and your family and can afford to pay for further education, then congrats, however if you relay on any of the public services, your vote as the recent events have proven is putting the public at risk and ultimately your family and children. But its ok, you saved , what ?1k a year in tax? Your vote was maybe selfish, but not in the way you think. Sorry if I offend. No not offended, it's all about opinions. I will say though I did a bit more research than making my decision on saving 1k a year. For example in labours manifesto they referenced the land value tax. Details on the impact of this were mixed and no doubt scaremongering in places but without clarity I wasn't going to risk it. We all want a good NHS but if you or anyone can tell me how we can maintain the current model, designed in the 1950s, when the population is aging and growing and will continue to do both without simply throwing billions and billions of pounds at it then I would consider a different path. Same for education to an extent, more billions. I don't want my kids generation picking up the debt all this would leave them. Someone/everyone needs to start doing some radical thinking because current solutions are not going to work.

Regardless of what the Scottish public voted on for or against Brexit can't happen now. The mood of the nation has changed we need to have a second vote now people actually understand the consequence of Brexit. Half the people who voted leave did so on some half arsed lies from UKIP (0 seats) and Boris the self indulgent opportunist. The reality is dawning on many and the fact Labour with Corbyn at the helm threatened the most stable tory government in years tells you all you need to know. May should end this nonsense now. Ulysses
One interesting observation. FPTP gets knocked as a system, and rightly so, but for sheer drama in an election nothing beats it. Also, those eviscerating the Tories should realise that a system like STV would give them even more seats on their current percentage vote in Scotland. Yep. The city of Edinburgh is a case in point. As it stands, it returned 3 SNP, 1 Labour and 1 Lib Dem, but if it were a 5-seat constituency using a PR-STV system like that used in the Assembly elections in NI, the score would have been more like SNP 2, Labour 2 and Conservatives 1. Mikey1874
There won't be a "coalition" with the DUP - at least not in the same sense as with the Lib Dems a few years ago. The DUPes are parochial; all they want is for someone to help save good wee Norn Irn from popery and a United Ireland, and pony up some cash for roads and schools and stuff. Where they will dig their heels in is over things like balancing abortion rights on the mainland with the lack of them in NI. In essence, I think that NI will suffer more from the relationship than Scotland, Wales and England. The big main thing the DUP will want is extra funding for N.Ireland They don't need to ask for help to keep Ireland socially conservative eg abortion
Ulysses
Interesting how little inroads they made in Edinburgh, which could be seen as significant. Depends on how you look at it. The Tories were up 8.7% in Edinburgh, compared to 13.7% across all of Scotland. But they were still up 8.7%, and they came very close to winning a seat in Edinburgh South West and put in a very respectable performance in Edinburgh North and Leith.
