No.  No.  We're not doing that.  Nah.  Isn't the right time.  Nah.

We are considering having a windfall tax.  Everything has changed.  Prudent.  Responsible.

Have an emergency budget.

(Get some slimy welt to take the piss out of the idea).  Nah.  No.  No.  Not doing that.  No need.  We're doing something else.

???

I agree. Rishi needs to do something.

Michael Gove's speech didn't help.

You don't think others live in poverty to enable the cosy lives we have?

Voting for a government that looks after the super rich rather than taxing their wealth properly to look after its citizens is enabling poverty.

A cosy life to me is more about security of work with reliable/fair income. These don't have to come at a cost of poverty to others if government policies were in the interest of the country and its people.

So people outside of the country can piss off? Heating our homes, driving cars, eating cheap food etc is enabling poverty.

No offence but that logic is just one step up from the person you challenged. He's happy to screw the domestic poor for his cosy life in your eyes and you're happy to screw the global poor so that the rich countries people can live a cosy life.

For people to have hot water, cheap energy, cheap food etc someone is getting screwed over somewhere. Much like Covid, it seems people are very uncomfortable with that when it's a person who looks and sounds like them, maybe that lives near them...but if they look and sound different and live on the other side of the planet then exploiting them is fair game.

Voting for governments who look after the elite is hardly going to help global poverty is it?

The poster I was quoting thinks that those in poverty only have themselves to blame, not governments, policies and their trade deals.

The worst affliction forced down the throats of the poor was Western industrialisation imo. Both domestically, and globally.

The vast majority of the poor haven't been impacted by Tory austerity in any way shape or form. In fact, they've probably never even heard of the Tories.

It’s not the same. Worse schools, worse healthcare, more crime (especially high fixed penalty notices in England currently), higher unemployment, higher levels of poverty, the list goes on.

I've not argued otherwise. I just argued that your line about 'being happy to see others in poverty to enable a cosy life' (paraphrasing) is true of most people in the west.

The very thing people here want (cheap fuel, high wages, cheap food, cheap housing etc) all comes from someone else's exploitation and poverty.

Why does everyone in the UK deserve that but not the people who's homes and environments are destroyed in order to enable it? If we weren't so bloody spoiled and soft then maybe globally we could achieve some equitable outcomes for people everywhere.

None of that is made better by voting Tory, I'm with you on that. And the greed of the elite is stomach churning, but there's only a comparative handful of people in the UK who have an objectively tough ride of it. It's not made better by any of the parties in the UK though without people first realising that actually having heating on all winter in a temperate climate or driving everywhere at the drop of a hat is a luxury still when we care to look outside out borders.

I was having a discussion with my line manager and she informed me that she was aware of some workers wanting to work in the office as it was cheaper than at home due to heating bills . Sad times

Mind the time you were able to claim a paltry £6 a week tax relief because you had to work from home? Sushi Bawsack labelled that a “tax loophole” and has cancelled that meagre tax “benefit”.

Meanwhile, people forced to work from home are not only consuming 50% more energy, they are having to do so while the cost of that energy has nearly doubled.

But that £6 “tax loophole” has been closed.

Tory brass neck at it’s worst.

Not being malicious, but if you were in such dire straits I assume that "living efficiently" wasn't what hopefully got you into better times.

I just don't understand the bootstrap mentality particularly from someone who has seen that side of the coin. Folk are budgeting like trojans and no efficiency savings is going to help them from the rise in fuel, food and energy costs alongside a real world 10% inflation rise.

Turns out the latest example of dodgy Russian money funding the Tories is "a new one on me" to Spaffer.

Yet Stephen Kinnock wrote to the party about it 2 years ago.  He was threatened with libel laws regarding his concerns.
