Right place, but that's not what it was called when I went there, cheers anyway

It was Madisons in 1988

Was it Madisons?

Edit: Beaten to it.

Double edit: Someone suggested Studio 84 on an old thread.

Remember Madison's, dunno if it's my memory, but I thought it was called something else for a short period of time.

Studio 84?

Nup, not that bud

Didn't Maddisons become Liberties later or is that a different club?

That rings a bell, but not sure?

There was a pub in Palmerston Place for a short while that had interesting barmaid attire..forget the name but not the barmaids

When I lived in Paisley there was a topless barbers shop as well for a while !!

My favourites in times gone by were

  • Cinderellas (burnt down)
  • Electric Circus (now the Jaffa Cake or whatever)
  • The Hoochie Coochie Club
  • Outer Limits (no idea what its called now)
  • Buster Browns (ditto)
  • La Belle Angele (went in a gas explosion)
  • The Mission (now Espionage)
These days I'm a pint and a sit down kinda guy!!

Typo.

The Mission is spelt 'Mish' and with a slur, rhymes with 'Pished' ....for good reason.

Cracking thread! Just read through from the start and it brings back many a memory.

Been trying to think of the name of a boozer I used to frequent late 70s early 80s on St Stephen St. On same side of the road as the Antiquary about 2/3s of the way from the Tiq to the Baillie. Basement bar and sometimes had live jazz bands playing. Anyone know this place??

Pretty sure you're right about Bells Diner. There was also a Chinese takeaway iirc. Think the Mexican might have been a bit later?

Getting there!

So, it was close to the side of the Bailie then? Can't think of a bar there unfortunately and that area used to be one of our main haunts.

I'll ask around for you.

Cheers Morgan. I think maybe about 50 yards up from the Baillie.

If it was then it wasn't the same bar. It had quite a trendy name but I've no idea when it would have changed. I was going there between 79 and 82

You of course are correct Stuart!

I always get Raffles confused with Shambles. Shambles was a 'split level' place wasn't it?

Morgan not sure if Shambles was a split level bar as I have only been in it twice and that was a good while ago.

Long time ago for me too Stuart.

Difference is though, I remember what bars I've been to look like etc. Unlike your very good self :whistling:

Food is a wee bit over the top with MG but still good.

Tried this question about two years ago with no joy so will try again tonight:

Can anyone remember a place in either Hanover Street or Frederick Street (between George and Queen St) around 1980/81 which was (I think) black and white checked outside, food was burgers, hickory ribs, chicken wings etc. We used to get handed vouchers in the street which gave you 'buy one meal get the second free' on Thursday nights. The decor was also black and white.

The name of this place has been bugging us for years!

By the time I got to the bog in the Heavenly the last thing on my mind was trap doors!
