I was the Dj at the Aquarius! Made a lot of friends there - pies at 10pm so that you could drink till 11 or 12 (supper licence) David Essex - Gonna make you a star and Hold me close. Great atmosphere - I was also the DJ at Chameleon.

We made our own entertainment - parties from 12 . Streets were empty by 1am!!

I seem to recall phones at each table so you could chat up anyone at a table lol

A little bit out, but Melvilles in Livingston. I remember a few Diamond White and Peach Schnapps induced vomits in their toilets.

Had many a good night there.

Woke up all over West Lothian after them too. It was like I was taking part in some kind of survivalist reality show.

What about the dry disco(s) at the YMCA in South St Andrew Street. 4 or 5 floors with a different theme on each, Soul/ Mod, Punk, Disco and Heavy Metal. Complete carnage at the end of each night as the various tribes went on their way.

There was also a pub opposite it that had a disco on the top floor, can't remember the name.

There was a further one in St James Centre, not the one at the Leith Street entrance but further in that you had to wander through the roof terrace thing to get to. I think this eventually became an over 30s venue.

Also Penguin Cafe in Hanover Street that had various other names through the years, I think it was a pub restaurant (Beefeater type establishment) before it became Penguin Cafe.

Funny how I can't remember the names of most of these venues, obviously the evils of alcohol from my mis-spent youth.

Roof Terrace bar was called The Top 'o The Walk.

Also there was a place at the West End downstairs I think near the Caledonian Hotel?

Oscars Nightclub.

Yes it was, but Mister Mustards (owned by Ahmed and his brother, who also had Rakes) was nothing to do with Gatsbys so, I’m intrigued why you are telling me this.

If I am missing something here, please let me know

Bars on 3 floors, the first floor bar was full of video games and pinball tables in their heyday. The nightclub was on the top floor. You can still see the entrance door next to where McDonald's is now.

I take it you remember The Ivanhoe that went on to become known as Rakes?

It was managed by the brother of the chap that had Mr Mustards (Ahmed).

I remember one of the floors being called Bits n Pieces because no two bits of furniture were the same.

More memorable though was it was the venue for Friday night private strip shows starting straight after work at 5 o'clock.

Topless barmaids, two strippers and a plate of stovies all for a quid!

Certainly got the weekend off to a flyer!

Favourite act had to be Big Tanya who had a wonderfully inventive act with Sooty and Sweep glove puppets. Really had to be seen.....!!

I'm sure I was in there on my stag night many moons ago but it had a different name at the time which I can't quite remember.

Something like Subway but not that.

No, Finsbury Park was on the premises of Mustards. You could enter it through the back door, just beside the Job Centre?

Just a ‘one level’ boozer, unlike Gatsbys which was three floors.

I know the place you’re talking about though, I worked just off West Register Street for about 19 years and used these pubs regularly.

It’s now annoying me too!

Sounds plausible, I know I was in what was Mustards but left because a few of the guys couldn't get in so went a couple of doors down and up some stairs to another place which I thought was Finsbury Park (Gatsbys)

What was the name of the nightclub opposite side of Kenilworth in Rose Street? About halfway along and downstairs.

Roxy Hearts

Not Flannigans. It was part of the new buildings half way along. Think it may have been called Metro at some point but trying to figure out original.
