Crunchy - I'm not giving up and will be renewing my own  investigations on Monday. My field agents have been informed of Morgan's latest findings so they can take that into account. Hopefully we can resolve this sooner rather than later.

Was it Desperate Dan's?

What was the name of the nightclub opposite side of Kenilworth in Rose Street? About halfway along and downstairs.

I thought it was called The Pub. This is about 30 odd years ago though

You’re right too.

It’s been The Galloping Major, The Pub and it’s been Metro.

That's what I thought it was called. Disco downstairs.

That’s a new one on me, general.

As usual though, I bow to your knowledge of all things ‘alcohol’.

Yes, in the mid to late 80’s I think?

It was the Galloping Major late 70’s/early 80’s.

So my dad told me.

It’s the restaurant/diner place in Castle or Frederick Street that he was talking about, Seymour.

Briefly:

American themed diner.

Decorated in black and white checks.

Angled doorway.

Frederick or Castle Street.

Around 1979 - 1983.

Flyers used to be handed out for ‘buy 1, get1’ on Thursday evenings.

It’s not Garfunkels.

Hope you can get it’s name!

No, Finsbury Park was on the premises of Mustards. You could enter it through the back door, just beside the Job Centre?

Just a ‘one level’ boozer, unlike Gatsbys which was three floors.

I know the place you’re talking about though, I worked just off West Register Street for about 19 years and used these pubs regularly.

It’s now annoying me too!

I thought Finsbury Park was further down.

The pub you could enter from West Register Street, was that not Findlays or something?

I used to work in New Register House from 1987 - 1994

Yes, Findlays sounds right.

Findlays was the old Mr Mustards, I’ve got my locations slightly wrong I think.

Sounds plausible, I know I was in what was Mustards but left because a few of the guys couldn't get in so went a couple of doors down and up some stairs to another place which I thought was Finsbury Park (Gatsbys)

Haven't read all the posts on this but Gatsby's had a downstairs bar (entry to the right) and upstairs disco (entry straight up the stairs) from memory so could quite easily be confused for two different places. could be talking **** mind, I am going back 35 years now, incredible :10800:

Are you sure of the location as there was something like that next to Pipers in Lothian Road I worked there but for the life of me can't remember the name at the moment.

Hi,

yes, positive about the location.

I also recall the place you’re talking about in Lothian Road, but can’t remember it's name either.

Did I mention throwing pies from the balcony of the West End Club on to the dancers below? Not the best behaviour though it was my mates and not me, honest  🙄

If you ever find yourself in Reading, or know someone down that way, the Berkshire Record Office have the national archive of Yellow Pages. They'll be closed just now, of course.

Begs the question - why did you even have pies on your person?

Was that not because they had to supply a meal to allow a late license?

Not sure but seem to remember something similar elsewhere.
