Where/when did he say this?  Bit early on a Friday morning for a press conference I’d have thought.  Could just be a regurge of his comments before Wed night.

Think it was the evening news website

Ok, bored at work, so looked up some interesting looking free agents who I think “may” be within our reach.

Fredrik Gulbrandsen: 29 year old Norwegian CF. Last club Istanbul Basaksehir. Could knock his old club out of Europe with us. Roughly 1 in 2.3 games goal return.

Michael Hector: 30 year old Jamaican CB from Fulham.

Matej Vydra: 30 year old Czech CF of Burnley. May be on too high wages but a good goal ratio of roughly 1 in 2.3 games.

Pelle van Amersfoort: 26 year old Dutch AM from Cracovia. Good goal ratio of roughly 1 in 3 games. 6 foot 4 tall.

Nicolai Jorgensen: 31 year old Danish CF from FC Copenhagen. Good goal ratio of roughly 1 in 2.3 games.

Ryan Bennett: 32 year old English CB from Swansea.

Havard Nordtveit: 32 year old Norwegian CB from Hoffenheim.

Adem Ljajic: 30 year old Serbian AM from Besiktas. Decent goal ratio of roughly 1 in 3.3 games.

Ante Majstorovic: 28 year old Croatian CB from CH Port.

Joris Gnanon: 25 year old French CB from Saint-Etienne.

Thoughts?

Just asked my Burnley mad mate, Vydra left Burnley when they were relegated, they offered him a new contract and he said it was an 'offer he couldn't accept' meaning he was after EPL wages.

Very very highly doubt we'll see him here.

Yip that’s all that’s happened here. No point qualifying for Europe then saying the players are exhausted, busy schedule etc. Pathetic

I’ve thought for ages that we have an institutional fitness and stamina issue. Not many teams run out of gas like we seem to. Kilmarnock the other night looked stronger and fitter for longer than we did. Ross County another team we ran out of steam against, not to mention the cup final where we were dead on our feet after an hour.

Europe this season might be looked upon as a learning curve with the league the priority but going forward I don’t see the point of breaking your balls to qualify then moaning it’s a bit hard to cope with

I’d say it’s a higher priority for the fans than it is for the club. Moaning about 2 games a week for 2 months says to me we’ll be happy enough to take the money and get it out of the way.

Does look that way. Otherwise there would've been more intent to bolster the squad before Zurich. That was a very winnable tie. We fell short as we did on Wednesday.

I sat next to Billy Brown last week. I asked him about these Thursday/ Sunday games. His reaction " over reaction by the club. Players should be able to cope"

I was thinking similar recently. You don't often hear clubs moaning about the number of games they need to play and size of the squad when they have decent cup runs. Sure, we've got an additional 8 games in Europe but we've also just saved ourselves 3 or more games by getting knocked out the league cup. If we don't have a great run in the Scottish then we could end up playing roughly the same number of games as last season.

We won't be against the clock on free agents and can conduct the necessary due diligence as you have stated. Probably miss out on ECL but that pretty much looks down to a double header with the Latvians for a bit of pride.

This.

I think we'll sign an attacker today so he can play in Europe, and then a defender which I'd say is far less urgent; next week some time.

If you’d be ‘delighted’ with us signing McKirdy then that’s up to you. I think we’re a couple of levels above that. Would you be delighted with us re signing Cole Stockton?

I never said him as an individual,  he has a decent scoring record is my point.

Our new forward does not, and has played majority of his career in div above hibs boy.

To be honest I’m getting sick of him moaning about being down to the bare bones. That team that started the other night was a good enough team to beat Killie, how about he tries to motivate the players rather than moaning in the press all the time.

The team he puts out on Saturday should be good enough to win no matter who is out injured

Adding to this, he said he was extremely injury prone, playing one game out for three kind of deal. Scored nearly every game he started though.

Don't expect to see him here

You think a group of professional football players need to be motivated by the manager to at a minimum go do their job, never mind by the fact there's a quarter final place at stake.

I'm still annoyed about Wednesday but it's absolutely obvious we didn't win because we couldn't get in behind them and had no one on the bench that could come on and do anything different. At least against St. Johnstone we had McKay and Shankland on the bench. Wednesday's bench was the weakest we've had in a very long time. Robbie wearing a short, glittery skirt and waving pom poms before the game won't change those facts.

26 minutes ago, JimmyCant said:

Do you think the available players appreciate being called bare bones ?

How about knocking on Savages door, Robbie, and finding out wtf happened this week and how it’s going to be addressed now and stop publicly whinging and get on with what you’ve got FFS.

Id rather he said we’ve got a very good squad here who can all play if picked and we’ll do fine.

Bare Bones ? Nah that’s not very motivational for anyone hearing it who maybe wants a chance to break into the team

Ah c'mon you're being disingenuous, he's not calling the players bare bones. Not a single player will argue with that description because they'll see the queue for the physio every morning. How else would you describe our injury list?

How do you know Robbie hasn't chapped Savage's door and done that? He can do that and talk about it in the press, because when he talks to the press, he's really talking to us, and plenty of us are wondering what's happened. He's clearly saying it's not down to him not wanting or needing players.

Any professional football player at Hearts who isn't a regular starter and doesn't see this as an absolutely fantastic opportunity to stake their claim as a regular starter, quite frankly doesn't have the mentality to be at our club. Even less so if they're feeling sad about the squad being described as down to the bare bones. I'm not sure players are as fragile mentally as you think they are.

It did seem from all the reports yesterday that there is at least one player we were talking to who will be a free agent and think we can get it dealt with today.

How is it nonsense ? A club with our budget (especially this season) ought to be able to assemble a squad where just about any reasonable selection/ combination beats Livingston most times we play them, home or away. If the bottom end of our squad is being labelled ‘bare bones’ a day after the transfer window shuts, that’s a concern.

Window is closed Robbie and you all played a part in assembling what you’ve assembled. If it’s not good enough it’s on you, amongst others. How about just STFU and get on with it now

Reasonable points. I just think using the term ‘bare bones’ smacks of negativity when he could say what you just said about ‘opportunities etc etc’ It’s like he’s excusing something before it’s happened.

Depends whether we intend to emulate our League Cup performance in the Scottish Cup!

I agree though. I'm not sure how the club actually feel about European competition.

AB has explicitly stated that she wants the club to become a regular and established presence in European competition - partly because Europe is fun, and partly because regular European participation will fund our challenges for domestic success.

Also, winning the SC wins you the SC and gives entry to the European Conference League as a minimum, winning the LC wins you the LC - I would be confident that we'll be trying our best to win the Scottish.

Shankland’s record in Belgium was poor and his record in the Scottish Premiership with Utd was piss poor and, as yet, he’s done nothing to justify getting a few Scotland caps (just shows how weak we’ve been up front).  He’s still very much unproven at our Premiership level although I do think he will score a reasonable amount of goals for us providing he gets better service than Wednesday night.  But trying to make out he has a great record everywhere he has played is stretching it a bit.

I’m sure Robbie expects to win at Livingston.  Has he no understanding of football?

It might not happen and we have no god given right to win there but we have better players than them and if we approach the game in the right manner our manager and players will be confident and expectant of a win but hopefully not complacent.  Going there and happy with a draw is a loser mentality.

Why are you sure ,we’ve had all summer to identify players it’s not happened so far ,and I understand that the injuries this week were unusual , but take those 2 out ,we filled our bench on Wed with young lads that played Tuesday night and were subbed off at Inverness to be available Wednesday , the team were bullied all over the park

Can't find the original post but someone said we have over 30 league games but only 6 in Europe so what's the issue.

Issue is every win in Europe is worth half a million quid.

Makes perfect sense we should be investing in a squad capable of winning multiple games in Europe to maximise the money we can make.

Does seem strange if we use the free transfer market due to how we're told recruitment works unless  they are aware of guys being released that they have on their list of options otherwise we could have picked players up before today.

We'll just have to wait and see but I personally don't think we'll do any more business.

He has an active role in the situation and can impact the result. We are simply observing. I would be worried if Neilson didn't expect his game plan to work. I am just long enough in the tooth to know it will be a very hard game.

I said the 5–0 had nothing to do with this team. Why would I want to root around in the last 20 years results. In case you hadn’t noticed the team that got promoted and the players recruited have changed drastically. Results under previous managers with different sides are not relevant.

Why does a Hearts fan want to cast up a humiliating result from years ago is the real question?
