Transfer window overall feels like we were coasting along at a comfortable 2-0 and lost 2 late goals. Could have been a great win but frankly we blew it towards the end.

Just because they are eligable for Europe if not signed today doesn't mean its not helping us with bodies. We have 6 European games, but what is going matter is the league games. If sign a couple of quality players who cant play in Europe, then it means we are strong for our domestic games. Now dont get me wrong, I would rather have players who can play in both, its just its not a disaster if we sign players who are too late for European football.

Fredrik Gulbrandsen: 29 year old Norwegian CF. Last club Istanbul Basaksehir. Could knock his old club out of Europe with us. Roughly 1 in 2.3 games goal return.

Michael Hector: 30 year old Jamaican CB from Fulham.

Matej Vydra: 30 year old Czech CF of Burnley. May be on too high wages but a good goal ratio of roughly 1 in 2.3 games.

Pelle van Amersfoort: 26 year old Dutch AM from Cracovia. Good goal ratio of roughly 1 in 3 games. 6 foot 4 tall.

Nicolai Jorgensen: 31 year old Danish CF from FC Copenhagen. Good goal ratio of roughly 1 in 2.3 games.

Ryan Bennett: 32 year old English CB from Swansea.

Havard Nordtveit: 32 year old Norwegian CB from Hoffenheim.

Adem Ljajic: 30 year old Serbian AM from Besiktas. Decent goal ratio of roughly 1 in 3.3 games.

Ante Majstorovic: 28 year old Croatian CB from CH Port.

Thoughts?

Nice. Van Amersfoot would be top of my first choice but I'd actually be delighted at signing either of them. They're all very good players who would go into our starting 11. Ryan Bennett or Havard Nordtveit would be excellent additions to our defence as well - good, experienced, composed defenders.

Now the dust has settled, we can be quietly confident in the squad. I expect one or two frees to come in yet but happy with what we have meantime. Rowles is a loss, but we have Kingsley in that position with cover from Cochrane & Halliday. For Boyce we have Grant & McKay. Humphreys looks more of a centre forward to me rather than a 10, will soon find out. I really think Grant will make the 10 role his own. Early days but we've seen enough from him to see he has touch, vision & intelligence (forgetting one rash decision obviously). As long as Halkett & Kingsley can steer clear of injury I think we will start to progress & look more settled, especially at the back. Conceding far too many at the moment, that needs to stop. Another CH & option up front needed but we are almost there.

I saw McKirdy play four times last season and a dozen or so the season before that and he's a League Two striker who's had a ghood season and nothing more. Also, a hot head and an absolute ***** of a man. He's 100% born to play for Hibs.

We have recruited very well and had it not been for injuries we would be looking at a very healthy squad in terms of numbers and quality. People shouldn't forget injured players are still to be paid also. It really couldn't be a case of we've a few injured so lets go out and replace them all. Like everyone else you always want more and we may just see one or two more via the out of contract route but the seethe is unjustified and misplaced in my opinion. We are very much on the way up in terms of player quality and a massive amount of credit for that lies at the door of Mr Savage.

To be honest I’m getting sick of him moaning about being down to the bare bones. That team that started the other night was a good enough team to beat Killie, how about he tries to motivate the players rather than moaning in the press all the time. 
 

The team he puts out on Saturday should be good enough to win no matter who is out injured

Like the look of Pollock but think Connor Smith suits the no10 position too and is probably a bit more ready to step in.

There’s a base level income from group stage football, probably £3.5m+.  If we can ensure we receive that for two or three consecutive seasons then we should create an enormous gap between us and the other non-OF teams in Scotland.  That gets us to a higher level in terms of where we play, who we can sign, how much we can pay players etc.  I’d rather focus on making sure that we do that than risk that for the sake of an extra few quid for points won in this seasons Conf league. I’m not saying we shouldn’t try to win games just need to remember that being in the group stage next season is more important than doing ok in the group stage this season.  Even in terms of signing out of contract players this month - don’t have to have them in today for register them for Europe. Would be ideal but not a necessity especially  if we pick up another Kingsley or McKay.

Humphreys got pace apparently. Our front 4 are quite fluid outwith Shankland who just likes to play between the posts so we can give him a run in that system somewhere till he settles and we see what he is.

To be honest I'm not sure how he plays was just trying to think how Robbie will play him here.Strong can hold up play to bring others in seemingly quite skillful and pacey so a lot of what Boyce had been doing but with pace added..

 

Like you say though really no idea how it will be until he settles down into the side.

Depends who you evaluate the "Boyce role". If we play a back 3 then invariably its 343 and there is no "Boyce role" as he would be on the bench with Shankland starting flanked by McKay and Forrest. If we go 4231 then I agree he plays in the middle of a 3 or No.10 if preferred terminology. A back 3 looks challenging just now for a variety of reasons. Personally I think we look a better side utilising 4231 and I think our current options favour it. 343 has its challenges, especially against better opposition.

 

Looks like we'll probably add a free agent at some point so things may change again.

Free agents will now be known from the window closing last night. Agents will be trying to find clubs for players. I’m sure our recruitment team are aware and will be doing due diligence on these players if not already done. I’m sure we will see one or two recruited in the coming days.

Ideally he'll be ready for full playing just before the World Cup, and I assume we're having a mini preseason (including bounce games/friendlies) during the world cup for anyone who's not playing in it, so he should be basically 100% in December.

We won't be against the clock on free agents and can conduct the necessary due diligence as you have stated. Probably miss out on ECL but that pretty much looks down to a double header with the Latvians for a bit of pride.

I’d say it’s a higher priority for the fans than it is for the club. Moaning about 2 games a week for 2 months says to me we’ll be happy enough to take the money and get it out of the way.
