The dynamic definitely changes.  A big, powerful running player is an “out” for every player in the team.  With Shankland there’ll be more responsibility put on our creative players to not fall out the game.

I'd still like to see a player like Simms come in personally.

Never been the biggest Shankland fan but if he is wearing the famous maroon he will get my full backing 👍

This guy is the director of the agency (StormSportsX) that Shankland's agent is with. Could be him.

Agreed but we now have McKay, Grant and Forrest whereas for most of last season it felt like just McKay .

If the 3 of them click , Shankland could get the most chances ever !!!

I think this is a great signing.

If we continue to create a similar amount of chances this season coming, that we did last season, LS will bang them in for fun 🥅 ️

McKay 68 key passes, 9 assists.

Boyce 31 kps, 2 assists.

Smith 18 kp, 1 assist.
Kingsley 23 kp, no assists.

Cochrane 16 kp, 1 assist.
Haring 11kp, 2 assists.
Devlin 16 kp, 2 assists.
Baningame 14kp, 1 assist.

199 key passes converted into 18 assists.

A clinical finisher will really improve that ratio.

That must be photo shopped. He has double the forehead size and top half isnt the same colour as the rest of his face.

Surprisingly scores very few headers.

Do you know the only thing we'll miss is that power Simms gave us.  He could just knock in past defenders and blast past them.

But then realistically how many guys can do this, so it just has to be "remember when Simms did that" and we bring in Shankland and play to his strengths.  A poacher, with good touch and interlink around the box, joining in with and being fed by McKay, Boyce, Devlin, Grant, Natty, Kingsley, Cochrane and hopefully more, that sounds pretty good to me.  If we could bring in a bit more pace and or/power along with this, we're absolutely golden.

In a nutshell.  Let's now move on from Simms.  Unless there's still a chance.....

Wow. That’s some mental stats. That conversion rate will absolutely improve 😉

Which is perfect.  Would anyone before last season have heading down as a strength for Kingsley?  He was superb in the air in both boxes as it happened.  Not a big concern for me.  If the boy is aggressive, he'll be fine.

Souttar couldn't head a ball or compete to do so for a fish supper when he arrived and really developed alongside Berra.  If Rowles does need to improve that, he can watch and learn from Halks (and Haring) every day now.

In all honesty, I don't see it overly as a big concern week to week.  I don't see to many teams getting cross after cross in to danger areas and the day of the big man, flick on, knock down to wee guy are all but done.  If a team does go direct, we're a very good second ball team these days with the likes of Devlin, Haring, Beni (when back) and even Natty and Cochrane both very good in that respect.  That first header just need competed well, not always won.

To add to what you say, not winning the ball in the air doesn't mean he hasn't done his job when jumping with an attacker, as long as the attacker has been unable to do anything useful with the ball. From memory, Alan McLaren wasn't the tallest of central defenders, but he made it very difficult for even the tallest of attackers to make decent contact in the air, and more often than not allowed Dave MacPherson, or another defender, to clean up. I very much doubt there's stats for this part of the game so it's something only watching Rowles will allow us, and our scouts when they assessed him, to judge.

Glad he has signed.

My main worry would be the length of contract.

Cannot remember him having a few good seasons in a row.

Or is my memory playing tricks on me.

Are they going to use the photo of him as a youngster in a Hearts strip for a then and now announcement?

Worst kept secret out, think he will do fine, but not the next level signing, not a negative because we need 4 strikers, he is a good addition, one more, next level please

Paying a decent fee so I'd expect a 3 year deal.

Agree about the patter re his head.

However.

Those saying that patter sucks, why don’t any of you come to the defence of any of our players who are at the mercy of the boo boys on here?

All very well defending Shankland before he’s even in the door.

What about defending Boyce who has taken a shed load of flak (undeservedly in my opinion)

Bit hypocritical by some but not saying everyone.

I think you'll find most, if not all, that defend Boyce will defend Shankland too

Why do people on here take a group of posters who write something about 2 different things, then claim the same group of posters post something different, which makes them a hypocrite; no names, no evidence

Only childish posters write the crap about Shankland

Plus there was reasons that Boyce lost form at end of last season; it's been done many times already in the last 2 weeks

Lucky I'm not moderating here, because I wouldn't take slagging our players or targets well

Without wanting to reopen the can of worms someone did when suggesting Simms touch wasn't the best, I'm not sure Simms was as good an outball as he could be.  Yet!  "Yet", of course is important here, he has it all in the locker.  I always felt he didn't give our defenders that curve round the channels he was so good at quite often enough.  Of course had he been with us again this season (still might!!) that sort of stuff is learnt an very addable to his game.

Gino has proven very adept at that when needed and at one point last season I thought he could very much be a new CF option.  Feels very much like that ship has sailed now though, doesn't it.
