Looking at Smith in training, he seems well up to speed along with the others. Hopefully he stays injury free for a while now.

Yeah he looks like he used his break well.

As always, McCulloch & Forrest look to be doing a sterling job of keeping the camaraderie up within the group. Neilson and Grant getting involved with some of the banter. Good to see.

Bite size chunks to nibble away at the ugly sisters. Closing the gap marginally every year. If we could improve on 4-5 points per season then there’s no reason to not be able to split them in 5 years time. Small gains every year and then look back in 5 years time. To try and do it in one season will only set us back further and would be far too expensive. I’m happy that Joe and Robbie along with the backroom team, are more pragmatic in their approach than our Fanbase

Definitely - and although as football fans we want glory and trophies right now, we'll (hopefully) all still be here in 5 years time supporting Hearts, so we might as well work steadily towards a long-term goal.

Think back to 5 years ago - we finished fifth, 12 points behind St Johnstone and 4 ahead of Partick Thistle FFS. We've made progress since then!

Yeah, just what we need with this training camp. Everything seems well organised, and the guys are getting stuck in. Great team bonding and camaraderie to boot.

Apologies if this has already been posted here or elsewhere, but an interesting article in Grant's own words on what brought him to Hearts and how he sees it going.

If we were to sign the guys we're linked with then we're looking at over £3m outlay on transfers. I really can't see it.

Grant - £250k or thereabouts

Cochrane - £400k or thereabouts

Shankland - £400k or thereabouts

Lane - £1m

Simms - £1m+

Ronan - £500k

Make it happen though Hearts

That's a 'repeatedly qualify for Europe' team

Grant was reported as having a £750k release clause in his contract, which was a bit more specific than a journo simply making up a number.

I do like that we appear to be playing hardball on deals and still getting our man rather than coughing up the asking price. Better value = more deals can be done.

My point still stands we wouldn't have paid anywhere near that

One of the rumours sites has Cardiff alone chasing Lane, not West Ham, perhaps had him watched, but well below their level by the look of it.

Retired. Na such luck, we went and bought the Royal Hotel in Jedburgh to keep me out of trouble. Thou I am looking to move back to Edinburgh in the near future

Apparently you can still get newspapers with real folding paper pages. You can see one exhibited at the Museum in Chambers Street, quite remarkable.

A mate of mine who is usually quite reliable has text me saying

ES

make of that what you will.

He was also on the home kit release prior to it happening, feel free to go back and check but I posted first that it would be 2pm that day.

What sort of fees do you guys think we paid for our signings so far?

I'd guess

Rowles -300k

Grant - 200k

Cochrane - 175k

The other two, probably 2 or 3 months wages as a signing on fee.

Obviously we might end up paying Dundee United more if the tribunal goes against us.

Just watched Training video. That young lad Neilson looks solid. Would hate to run into him.

Great news if true.  I think we will push the boat out for Simms given the impact he had and huge potential.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we get him for a relatively low fee but with large sell on fee for Everton.

Just guesses based on nothing.

Guessing we probably paid about that much for Atkinson and Devlin too.

He looks like an exceptional athlete.

Got the build of an EPL centre half. Hope his football brain is that sort of standard too.

Some negotiation to get Grant for £200k if the release clause was £750k!

Pretty sure I've read in various articles that his former club dropped the fee substantially.

I think they just wanted to move him on and were happy to take a fair amount.

Need to caw canny with the sell on %. Would stick in the craw to get £3 million for him in 2 years and have to hand half it back to Everton. 20% max IMO

Wonder if they'd bite at 750k and a 20% sell on fee. 🤔

That would be absolutely massive for us.

I don't think we can afford him for what it's worth.

I suppose but seeing as how unlikely it looked that we would have a chance of seeing him again if we got him on any kind of permanent deal for that length of time then I would just be happy to have his on field contribution in all honesty

Correct. The important thing is we get him back. As a permanent signing ideally and we worry about selling him when the time and the price is right

Tom Hardy’s Dug

I wouldn’t be overly concerned about a higher than normal percentage fee if we got Ellis cheaper than his market value- swings and roundabouts.

Betrer than loaning him for another year and getting no return when he leaves at the end of this season having developed him for 18 months.

As with squad additions, our financing of deals will have to be innovative and incremental in order to get players we might not otherwise be able to afford.

Bazzas right boot

Part of me wants us to have Paid £1m +  for Simms, then secure Ronan and then Shankland for about £500k each.

Swing our big tadgers about.

Really stick it up the likes  Aberdeen and Hibs as, they watch with jealousy.

The media and the likes will come out with all sorts of shite to play it down.
