Russia Invades Ukraine

In normal circumstances say March 2022, what Ukraine has been doing bombing Russia / navy would be massive news.

Somehow I think the idea of Ukraine's defeat backed by Trump has infected the media. Maybe they don't want to upset him. Keeping their options open.

Medvedev has been on the bevvy again.

Here's Russia's latest "peace plan"

1. Recognition by the former (hereinafter - f.) "Ukraine" of defeat in the military component of the conflict. The full and unconditional surrender of f. "Ukraine," represented by the neo-Nazi clique in Kyiv. Demilitarization of f. "Ukraine" and a ban on the creation of paramilitary forces on its territories in the future.

2. Recognition by the international community of the Nazi character of the f. Kyiv political regime and carrying out, under UN supervision, the forced denazification of all bodies of authority in f. "Ukraine".

3. The UN's ascertainment of the loss of international legal personality of f. "Ukraine" and the impossibility for any of its legal successors to join military alliances without Russia's consent.

4. The resignation of all constitutional authorities of f. "Ukraine" and the immediate holding of elections for a provisional parliament of the self-governing territory of f. "Ukraine" under the aegis of the UN.

5. Official recognition by the provisional parliament of f. "Ukraine" that its entire territory is the territory of the Russian Federation. Adoption of an act on the reunification of the territories of f. "Ukraine" with Russia.

6. Self-dissolution of the provisional parliament. Recognition of the act of reunification by the UN.

So in other words they want nothing more or less than the complete absorption of ALL of Ukraine, which will be a semi-autonomous region of USSR Mk2.

And some feckin spangles think Ukraine should negotiate

Never really contribute on here but a lot of great informative posts

just an observation.  You really have to question the value of traditional, conventional weaponry. It’s only a matter of time before the ship drones are evolved into something quite unstoppable.  It’s only a matter of time before drones are miniaturised and evolved into something which makes a tank worthless . If we aren’t already at that point.

Completely random link here but he is a view to a drone developed to keep up with an F1 car.  I’d bet that’s already on the radar of various militaries to be adapted.

The "end of the tank" has been predicted ever since they were first used.

Early 20th century > Heavy artillery will make tanks obsolete
Mid 20th century > Air power will make tanks obsolete
Late 20th century > Man portable anti tank missiles will make tanks obsolete

Early 21st century > Drones will make tanks obsolete

agreed but tank losses have been enormous. From shoulder fired missiles to drones they now mean certain death IMO.

drones have changed the game not just for tanks

It looks like there are a few protests at the polling stations. An extract from an article in the Washington Post.

On the first day of a presidential election widely seen as the least competitive campaign since the fall of the Soviet Union, some Russian voters expressed their anger in stunning individual protests across the country — setting fire to polling booths or pouring green antiseptic fluid or dye into ballot boxes.

At least five people, including several older women, set polling booths on fire, burned ballot papers or threw incendiary devices at polling stations, according to Russian independent media — a wave of highly unusual protest actions in a nation challenged by President Vladimir Putin’s two-year-old war in Ukraine and harsh political repressions.

Russia’s Central Election Commission on Friday called for tighter security at polling stations as the protest incidents unfolded and warned citizens they could face up to five years in prison for such attacks.

Russian election chief Ella Pamfilova also reported a massive hacking effort, with more than 10,000 cyberattacks by 5 p.m. Friday.

Many Russians spoiled their ballot papers or marked their votes against Putin.

Some wrote the name of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, who died recently in prison. Others scrawled slogans protesting Putin’s move to cling to power for a fifth term or calling for Russian soldiers to be demobilized, with the war against Ukraine now in its third year and continuing to result in heavy casualties, according to photographs of ballot papers that were posted on independent Russian Telegram channels.

Putin is calling the Russian freedom fighter incursions into Kursk, Belgorod and Bryansk oblasts "election interference"

Oh, and the Russian installed "government" of Crimea is trying to sue Ukraine for "loss of earnings during the Ukrainian occupation of 1995-2014"

Meanwhile.....Ukraine is making good use of its new generation of aerial drones to strike Russian oil refineries deep inside western Russia.

One estimate puts the damage done in one large strike last week as reducing the Russian national oil output by 4%. Not bad for one strike.

Russia has halted diesel and petrol exports. So less money coming in.

The Russian arms export industry has almost totally dried up too, with all new armaments being kept for their own use (and swift destruction) in Ukraine.

They've even ripped up contracts of kit already paid for and are keeping the equipment themselves, and refusing to pay back the cash, saying that the deliveries are only "delayed" (aye, delayed until they win the war and who knows how long that'll be)

Good grief Ukraine is a devastating defeat for the West. NATO set out to defeat Russia in Ukraine and has lost. European economies are really struggling while the Russian economy thriving. The West is now in real trouble.

You could almost be taken seriously if you'd stopped at European economies struggling but then you added Russian economy thriving and that's just total nonsense.

To make it worse, you waffle on about defeating Russia in Ukraine. If NATO wanted to defeat Russia, it would simply put boots on the ground and steamroller it's way through the fodder of the Russian army and destroy it completely. They haven't because they don't want to, they're just draining the Russian economy.

You know that though, but you can't stomach truth. Now off back to under your stone or wherever else you inhabit.

All these UFO sightings off both coasts of the US are 100% down to this agency imo.

I think they have access to some wild space age technology that we wont find out about for a while yet.

Russia wouldn’t stand a chance if NATO put boots on the ground in Ukraine. It would be over within a week. The risk is nuclear weapons and obviously that’s why we are using Ukraine to pretty much drain their economy.

The Russian economy is on its knees so not sure where you are seeing the thriving economy chat about.

It's incredible that we are continually told that Ukraine is fighting for democracy, yet elections in Ukraine are cancelled. Meanwhile the election in Russia we are told by the BBC and the establishment are the wrong sort of election and that democracy in Russia is a sham. Yet Britain we are told is a model democracy with an unelected House of Lords and a government elected by around 40% of the electorate.

Putin’s just jailed and then killed his main political rival, and then won almost 90 per cent of election votes. As a riddle, it’s as mentally challenging as painting by numbers.

Meanwhile, back in reality....

The Czech plan to find 3rd party sources of artillery shells for Ukraine has been wildly successful.

Many European nations have stumped up a few hundred million to fund the purchase of the 800,000 shells the Czechs had a line on.

In fact, they had so many pledges that they've now also found another 700,000 shells and just need a couple of other nations to pitch in and then Ukraine will have 1.5million more artillery shells.

With many of the Western nations finally waking up and taking this all seriously, production of ammunition will now exceed 2.5million shells this year and rise to over 4million the year after.

This is despite having failed to deliver the promised 1million shells in the previous year.

Ukraine's own internal munitions and drone manufacturing capacity also continues to grow rapidly with industrial scale production of new generation drones starting up.

Spring rainy season is due to start in a week or two, then the whole of the contact line in the east becomes a swamp.
