Hopefully  the new Aussie guy will settle in quickly due to Cammy being here.

Why?  Because they are both from Oz?   I reckon Devlin would be a complete nutter to live/socialise with.  I shared a cabin with another Scot when I was based in Kuwait, I hated the ****

ps Devlin is from Sydney while Atkinson is from Tasmania.  A bit like comparing Glasgow and Shetland.

Funny how people tend to think that because they are both Aussies they'll suddenly become best pals.

There's no language barrier so Atkinson should settle in fine, just like Devlin did.

I'd take him.

Did read that both Aberdeen & Hibs are in for him too.

Wouldnt be surprised if he goes to Hibs. They have some weird connection with St. Mirren.

Dundee Utd also in for him,at least 4 English Championship Clubs also.

If we are in for him big Joe can be a pretty persuasive guy.😎

He's at St Mirren, I have read that they sometimes sign players not called McGinn right enough.

Yeah just realised that,  decent scoring record for a midfielder but on penalties I see .

Don't know much else about him tbh

Yeah,he had a couple of shots in the 1st half and a nice through ball in the 2nd but not much else, would offer something different from Devlin,Baningime and Haring when trying to break down teams at home.

Cammy did a podcast at the beginning of October and he was bigging up his mate who plays at RB and saying we should sign him. Guess who...

Not seeing anything about Jamie McGrath but he'd be another solid signing with potential sell on value. Isn't he a recent internationalist?

ROI are shite though tbh.

McGrath is an interesting one, to many he’s apparently a possible Colin Cameron type but other than a few flashes I can’t say I’ve seen enough of him to be conclusive. What I would say though is that I can’t see where he’d fit into our formation. He’s not a wide player and we seem to prefer two deep sitting tacklers (Haring/Devlin/Baningime) in the centre, the main reason McEneff has been limited in playing time I feel. Atkinson I can see slotting straight in to our set up as a RWB based on what I’ve read, but not sure where McGrath would fit in.

Wiki has him as winger or am. Replacement for Woodburn if rumours of him going back to Liverpool are true (or for next season)?

To be fair, ROI are improving again and have looked a lot better in their last few games, they're not as easy to beat as they were a year ago.

I think its trying to find a balance of recruiting for our preferred 5-2-3 /3-5-1-1  and recruiting players that will allow us to open up teams when they are sitting in at Home or say a battering ram striker as an alternative to Boyce away from Home.We need different options in the SPL,Hibs have been found out from last season as they never mixed it ip.

Will admit to not seeing him extensively, but can’t say I’ve ever seen him on the wing. Always seen him central. Woodburn has been a let down to be honest, saying that I feel he operates best centrally, but we stick him out wide, which is kind of my point with McGrath I suppose.

Our issue under Neilson is we’re pretty predictable with formations. We changed things a little against Rangers with the back 4, but in an attacking sense we’re pretty much the same so although I would like us to have variety to be less predictable I just don’t see it happening often. So if we’re shelling out cash for McGrath then you’d expect him to play, but we did pay £200k for McEneff to sit on the bench most weeks so I dunno.

McGrath is decent enough but we need more goals from our attackers and he doesn't really offer that aside from penalties.

As an aside, if McGrath took over penalties from Boyce it would be interesting to see how Boyce’s performances would be viewed by the fans if his goal count wasn’t as high

He could easily be our 2nd or 3rd option. I remember someone saying Scottish based players were too expensive for what they're actually worth.

Atkinson added at right back

McGrath in for Woodburn

New striker in for Gnanduillet

Keep our back three

That would be a great window imo

As you say, its not a given that they'll be great buddies who want to share a flat - but isn't it likely that a player moving halfway round the world to a different climate is going to appreciate advice & friendship from an Aussie boy who's already a team-mate here ?

That would be outstanding. McGrath would be a coup and a big slap in the face for Hibs. Can't see it happening as we seem to be spreading our recruitment search well beyond the SPFL.

That said, Tony Watt is still floating out there. He clearly has an offer up his sleeve that, if it's in Scotland, can only realistically be from Aberdeen (who are desperate for a goal scorer), Hibs or us. My bet is Aberdeen. Even tho' he didn't do well last time with us, he would now fit better into our 343 system and would be an upgrade on Woodburn.

I'm sure he was at Aberdeen for a good while training with them for ages but never signed a deal, It must off been a couple of years ago now. I can see him going Aberdeen don't see Hearts signing him or Hibs.

I'm not too fussed about Tony Watt tbh,   he is having a bit of a purple patch in a team that is also having a good run of form generally.   Some players just suit certain clubs don't thrive at others,  even if we have changed system I just think he's suited to a club with less expectation and less pressure to perform and that's what has helped him to lift his game.    Therefore could end up at Hibs 😂

I the supposed signing policy since the summer is to believed we will not be even looking at Tony Watt, as we’re only meant to be after players 26 and under with potential. Watt is 27 and established. I don’t see him as the type of player we’d break with policy for. And wasn’t Neilson in charge when he was here and just let go by mutual consent?

He's being linked with EPL clubs now. It's a shame he got away from us.

I think it’s always been Savage’s policy, but supposedly we didn’t implement it properly until the summer as he was just in the door and January is a notoriously tricky window to operate in. Same goes for GMS last January too, I suspect he wouldn’t be signed if the opportunity was now rather than a year ago.

And I did say “since the summer” and Gnanduillet was signed last January, in case you’re mixed up?

That sounds like a decent policy to me as GMS and Gnando are a waste of time for me. It will be interesting to see what sort of age bracket our next signings will be. The new Aussie RWB is only 22.
