Nothing against Federer but I enjoyed seeing him losing in front of the adoring Wimbledon crowd. It was clear halfway through the 2nd set that he was going to be on the losing side.

A brilliant day. All on my tod so no one to worry about or to boss me if I was doing things that maybe I shouldn't.

Her attitude to her hitting partner/coach was proper shitty; just pointing and grunting; no conversation or anything.

Sounds a bit like a few golfers I've been in close proximity to.

Those little moments are fascinating, though.

Even now, with a month to go to his 40th birthday, I'd be very reluctant to use the terms "well past it" or "embarrassing" to describe Roger Federer.   He hasn't won a Grand Slam in 3 years, but he's still been capable of beating fellas a lot younger than him.  And he was coming back after two knee surgeries and effectively a year out of the game.

Last year his earnings were $106m, and it's estimated that he's on course for earnings of $90m in 2021.  So if the criticism of the JKB cognoscenti does get to the chap, he'll just have to console himself by rolling around in his money.

But it is probably time for him to call it a day.  Wimbledon is his best chance of a Grand Slam, and by next year he'll be almost 41.  So it's not going to happen, and it's better for him to leave on his own terms.

I don't know if the other 30-somethings at the top of the game will still be in the mix for titles at 39.  I have a feeling that Nadal won't while Djokovic will, but who knows really?

Great to see Martina and Chris on the panel today talking to Sue Barker ! They reminisced about their rivalry and friendship

Barty v Kerber  ( hard to call but I’ll go for Kerber . . More experienced on grass )

Pliskova v Sabalenka. ( Sabalenka to win I feel )

I’ve come to the conclusion that the centre court crowd is the worst crowd in professional sport.

That Barty/Kerber match was good and they're obviously supremely good tennis players, but I watch that and think Steffi Graf would annihilate them. I never think that about the men's game. The big three are so much better than Agassi, Becker, Lendl etc. What's that about? Is that unfair? Am I just super fecking old? Maybe the 80s and 90s were the female equivalent of what we've seen with the men in the last 15 years - just a coincidental golden crop of players.

I remember the 1984 final between Connors and McEnroe. Probably the most embarrassingly one sided final ever.

Connors was only 31 then (2/9/52).

He beat McEnroe in 1982 final in a 5 set thriller.

Yep, nothing to do with Connors playing on until his late 30s.  John McEnroe was simply on another level in that final - in fact that whole year.  Two months later McEnroe just edged out Connors in the U.S. Open semi-final 6–4, 4–6, 7–5, 4–6, 6–3.  He went on to slaughter Ivan Lendl in the final.

She likes a bit of smut, does Balding.

I have a pal who knew her before she was a lesbian.

Open the Chianti. Just the stuff in the wine rack, not in the cellar. Not vintage, not yet.

Didn't think it was in doubt tbh.

Yup, not yet vintage agreed. The augurs are good tho.

Shapovalov has a first class mental attitude.  Missed chances galore but stays really positive and with good body language.

Cracked now.  Maybe he's too outwardly positive while keeping the nervous energy within.  Nowhere near the killer instinct required.

Experience lacking. He certainly has all the talent to make it to the top. Tremendous style of play and I like his attitude. Needs to look at the big guns for the mental fortitude.

If I played shots as good as he does, I'd have to excuse myself to crack out out once in a while. I doubt I'd ever get tired of it, either - the good shots, I mean; I already know about the other one.

I'm watching Shaovalov's pre-serve routine where he bounces the ball through his legs. There's someone else who does it and I think it may be Isner. Can anyone confirm? I don't want to have to look at video clips of that big lunk to validate. Cheers.

Djokovic never/rarely plays any fancy fine shots but seems to look for the most efficient shot when ever possible. He figures his opponents weak spots and exploits them. He is simply a machine and the drug taking accusations are only evidence of how tremendous his mental and physical state are in. 34 and playing as well as he ever has.

Djokovic seems to be invincible despite having no big bombs.  He's just incredibly effective at being awkward.
