I can't remember that second wall at the top of the terracing, when/why did that happen?

Not sure. I suspect it's a safety measure?

As part of the segregation measures , probably early 80s , IIRC.

The Girders underneath were weak and couldn’t support the full weight of the concrete plus a full crowd

Late 80’s early 90’s I think

Great pic there. From around 1962 ?            Wee Hammy looks almost unrecognisable there !!     My Grandad used to say that he went from being worst player in the late-50s team to being the best in the md-60s team - without actually getting any better himself.   A sad indictment on how the club had started to decline in the 60s.

Pic 2  - from around 1970 or 71 ?    Would that be Willie Wallace taking the free kick ?

Pic 2 - from around 1969 or 70 ?   Jim Craig & John Clark ?     Jim Townsend and big Ernie ?

Was the yellow painted steps not later in the decade, even early 90's?

Plus the fence was put up after the painted steps! 🤔🤷‍♂️

This pic is from a 5-2 defeat in 1965. No. 9 is Willie Wallace.

Was at that game. What a start for big Des. And big Denis McQuade scored  a worldly to win it in the second half, after Joe Harper had equalised from the spot.

Think the keeper is a young guy called Wilson, may be wrong.  It's Jimmy Milne not Glidden, with Bobby Kirk, then George Thomson.  It's Ian Crawford not Urquhart.

However why Parker, Kirk and Thomson in same team?

Season 1980/81 when we lost out on promotion on last day of he season to Motherwell and that’s Wallace walking back from trying to calm the aggro in the shed. I was behind the goals that day, too young to go in the shed, and remember Wallace coming back past looking like wtf.

Polis hats flying about the shed that day. Was it not season 81/82?

That’s the one Dave and I think you’re right it was 81/82. I was 10 or 11 looking up thinking I’m never going up there!

That would explain it, during that period I would only get to Tynecastle  three or four time a season. Living in Ayr, and with two young boys, football was out of the question except if we were in Edinburgh for family visits. I spent my Saturday afternoons at the ironing board in the bedroom listening to the radio. That period ended when my eldest son got to the age of age about ten when I could argue that  two season tickets were justified by father/son bonding. He's still a committed Jambo. We had s/t's  in the old stand until the Gorgie stand was finished.

Great photos for testing the old memory !!  Just some guesses -

Photo 1 - Jock Stein in foreground ?

Photo 2 - Timothy outside the shed ?  Mind you, in the 1971 cup replay most of the shed was occupied by them

Photo 3 - Late 60s ?   Donald Ford (9) and Roald Jensen to his left ?

Photo 4 - JJ and John Gallacher.  Tommy Burns & George McCluskey ?

Photo 5 - Alan Anderson.  Don't recognise the Celts

Photo 6 - Kenny Garland (?)  Dave Clunie, George Donaldson (?), David Hay, JJ, Dalglish, Jimmy Cant

Photo 1 with Jock Stein in the foreground.

I believe this to be a Scottish Cup tie in 1966.

The game was 'supposed' to be all ticket with a capacity of 46000.

Just after the kick off with thousands still outside the exit gates at the Gorgie Road entrances were forced open and fans rushed the gates. This resulted in the pitch invasion you see in the photo as the game had to be stopped for safety reasons. The fans down at the front many children had to be allowed on to the pitch to escape the crushing.

If the fences that were later installed at the wall had been in force then there would surely have been a 'Hillsboro' type disaster.

Once the game restarted the referee with the usual sense of fair play ensured Celtic received the benefit of two dodgy decisions and escaped with a 3-3 draw and won the replay.

Very good memory there, Luckydug.   It leads me to think that this incident may be why my Mum wouldn't allow me to go to "big" games   for a few years (I was 9 at the time), after hearing my Dad's description of events. 😧

I can't identify all the players, please put me out my misery.

McLaren, Levein, ?, McPherson, Roger, Kirkwood?, Husref

Murray?, Tosh?, Galloway, Henry, Holmes?, Mark Cairns, Kenny Black

Robbo, Crabbe, Sandison, Kidd, ?, Foster, some random bird.

Andy Bruce between Levein and McPherson. I reckon extreme right top row with the stripey jacket is half of Ian Jardine.

Maybe Hugh Burns next to Kenny Black?.

Ian Cathro next to Mike Galloway

Why ?

That top 🤢

The absolute worst effort for a Hearts top I have ever seen. Its a laughing stock of a thing. Eye bleedingly bad!

In my opinion. Of course there will be someone along in a minute who will be creaming over it no doubt!
