Is that a red card ? He slipped initially but on reflection I can see why the decision was made.

I think the left foot contact was accidental

he then for whatever reason kicked out with the right foot.

Swansea player looking for a card as he’s in the air after being fouled 😂

Changing tack, but I'm sure I heard that both John Millar and Steve Fulton has something in common.

And I'm not referring to a decent left foot.....

Haha heard that about Millar but not Fulton. Certainly his son had some tackle on him today.

He had no intention of playing the ball he was committed in a foolish tackle before he slipped. He had a brain fart and quite correctly paid the proper penalty.

It was a complete accident. The Brentford guys foot was in his stride. There was no tackle committed. Unlucky imo

Nah, he’s accidentally stood on the guys foot and then went flying which made it look like a lunge. Can see why the ref sent him off, but it’s far from stupidity. I don’t even think he attempted a challenge.

Now there is no intent needed in the Laws it doesn't matter how it happened or if he meant it.

Doesn't matter.

Its 100% a red card for dangerous impact on the Brentford player.

Thems the rules.

With you John.  If you look at the playback you see Son of Baggio eying up the player.  He knew what he was doing but probably only looking at a foul but his slide made it a red.

Not really. One huge chance but the Brentford keeper has barely touched the ball today.

Toneys value will sky rocket if he's wanted by other clubs.   40-45 million wouldn't be far off.    They won't need to sell him right away.

They’ll be hoping his goals will keep them up and if not and he has a decent season they’ll sell him to fund their attempt to get back up after relegation.

20 minutes it took ☺.    I had fc koln to win 2-1 They went 3-1 up in 13 minutes ☺.

Congrats to Brentford, I like their structure as a club.   I wouldn't mind hmfc getting it right like that.    Coaching, scouting, etc.

It was also Brentford's first promotion through the English Football League play-offs at the 10th attempt, having lost four finals, and Frank is relishing the chance to celebrate.

"I just want to get very drunk tonight, and we will think about the Premier League on Monday," Frank said.

"If I'm not home in the morning, my wife will have to look for me."

Usual rubbish from someone who obviously never played football, it was an accident, yellow card only.

Let's ignore the particular incident, but is this a relevance to the laws of game and how match officials are instructed to comply with them?

The Laws of Game were changed. The general change was to make the effect and danger to  the fouled player more important. Re below the reckless nature of what we saw led to a red card. Before that law change if the referee saw it was accidental then he might not even have been booked. Though it happened so quick and there was no VAR today.

Of course this change is perhaps part of the reason players are exaggerating fouls and contact these days.

I didn’t play professionally but I manage big private and public contracts so reading the rules is quite important.

Is this some sort of sick joke with the fixtures????

Norwich start with Liverpool, Man City, Leicester and Arsenal...🤣😭🖕

Oh well, Championship beckoning again

This could work either way.  Even the top teams can have slow starts, as Manchester City did last season.

If Norwich can pick up points from those fixtures, before the top teams are into their stride, it could work in their favour.

True, my cousin, a Liverpool fan, isn't looking forward to it as hates them playing promoted sides first.

Pretty sure Norwich opened up against Liverpool last time too but at Anfield.

So in England the champions open the new season with an Away fixture.

They do, do things differently down there.

A few teams have runs like that during the season.

What an atmosphere. Impressive stadium that. Coukd have ended up with an identikit meccano stadium like some new ones but that looks like something from the continent.

Great to see a full house and hear real fan noise.

Hopefully a good game, hoping for a Brenford win - I stuck my free fiver bet on them.

What's with the really poor camera quality in this game? Main TV camera doesn't look focused, looks like a really poor stream if you were watching online.... Or am I having a stroke!?

UHD on Sky is perfect.

I'm watching on Sky One so maybe the issue. When it goes to a different camera and zooms in the quality of picture is fine, but when it's on the main wide angle camera it looks like the camera operator needs to pull the focus a bit.
