Hearts transfers (Cochrane goes on loan to Montrose)

Liked Washington, thought he was a good player. Disappointed him and Clare are away whilst a lot of the dross remains. I guess sadly we've a number of players who nobody else would want so have to get rid of a few who are actually half decent to balance the books.

Wish him all the best, always gave 100%

Is that Lee Bowyer in the picture? Looks like Connor dad gave him a lift and just hung around for the signing.

 I thought the same

A lot of stick for Washington, difficult season for him with injuries, let’s remember him for that lovely finish at the echo dome. Good luck to him.

rudi must stay

Shame he was only here a year. But we get money that's the big thing just now. We can't say it's a mistake picking up something at this moment in time. And the quality is there in the squad that we shouldn't miss him

Washington clearly had to move on from a financial perspective. He would have been on a good wage and it makes sense for both parties. Always gave 100% when he played, maybe not the most natural goalscorer but did a lot of unselfish work for the team and unfortunate with his injury. Describing him as ‘Powderpuff’ is quite laughable really.

Can't agree more. Shankland fits our style of play. I doubt we'll ever get him now.

Had a look on transfermarkt and there's actually some decent free agent strikers who are young enough and know where the back of the net is. Hopefully get someone new in soon.

I'm not sure if Shankland would fit with a classic Hearts style. Since Robbo at his peak we haven't had many traditional poacher types. I always think of us as a goals spread around the squad team. Our most successful teams of the past few decades have centred around goals from midfielders like Cameron, Hartley or Rudi with a centre half like Berra, Zal or Weir grabbing a batch from set pieces rather than focusing on the main striker like Hibs tend to do.

Isn’t that the bad guy from Beverley Hill’s Cop?

Bowyer probably suits the villain role. He was a part of a cracking young Leeds team before a string of 'incidents'. Then did he not have a go at Keiron Dyer on the pitch at Newcastle?

I wouldn't give Washington stick as he barely played. Thanks for the goal at ER and all the best. I'm not bothered about him tbh, losing what is most likely a big wage and he never played enough to form any attachment.

Win/win for both parties.

You feel more confident seeing McCulloch and Forrest barking orders than you did with Daly and Fox. Genuinely feel like we've turned a corner and the dark clouds have lifted.

Thank ****.

I've always thought poacher strikers work well when everyone is having a crack at goal because they specialise in deflections and picking up goals from others efforts. Not the most exciting type of player but goals are always good to have!

Got to mention from all the training videos (I know they aren't long) Tony MacDonald is looking sharp, can see a big season from him hopefully.

Had a fist fight with Dyer whilst play still going on. Both sent off. Sure Greame Souness was the manager at the time and offered them both a fight afterwards 😂

Surely too young to say that and  injury has hampered his chance of experience

likeable guy but we must do better

I could well be alone in this but I think Uche is a player we need in the Champioship to combat the brutes in some of these lower teams. He was at his best running at defenders not in the role Daniel gave him. Back to goal is difficult for him.

Bologna player linked with Rangers on loan, was signed for €6m last season.... Warning signs for Hickey right there. Go to Bayern!

You're not alone, someone already said his friend plays in Championship and isn't looking forward to facing Uche. I feel he could do a job for us too

Although he done well sometimes back to goal, defender gets tight and he turns them. Needs to stop fouling and falling down though!

Washington worked hard but we've had more than enough non-scoring forwards at the club. No great loss at all.

I sometimes wonder if we should just bring in a middle distance runner to play up front as we just ask our forwards to run about rather than score goals.

Need a new decent CM.

Loads in there that I wouldn't trust to go 5 games without getting injured. Naismith, all the full backs bar Hickey, Souter, Haring, Walker.

I don't think CM is no longer a priority.

You can thank Mr Damour for that

Disappointed about Washington but I'm guessing Neilson has separated out the high earners and some of them simply have to go. Out of Boyce, Naismith and Washington, one had to go. I'd keep Uche and Wighton now, unless a decent striker comes onto the radar. Wighton will be easy to loan out if that happens. Uche could be a useful weapon - I say keep unless there are obviously better cheaper options.

Good, another player not pulling his weight. Supposedly an international striker and scored a grand total 3 goals in 15 games, one of which a penalty.

I've got barely any sentiment with the team that got us relegated.

Reportedly one of the highest earners as well so a good one to get off the books.

Out of interest only and not wanting to hijack the thread, who are our highest earners anyway? Thinking value for money.

Not a clue mate. The same EN article saying Washington's leaving is also saying he's one of the highest earners at the club.

It would presumably be Naismith. Boyce, Damour and Gordon.

Down a level will be Berra, Walker, Haring, Smith and maybe Uche.

Staying on topic, I have a sneaky suspicion that this is going to be Naismiths last season before he moves into management/coaching. Be on the lookout for a replacement for him this season coming either this window or next year.
