Read any decent book about the British Empire and it will have a chapter asking "Was the British Empire a Scottish Empire?". You just need to look at the wealth of buildings constructed in Scotland (and England) since the Act of Union to around 1915 to appreciate how rich we once were, and like other European colonial powers, the story of how these riches were accumulated, isn't always pretty. If it takes the murder of black man in the US to make the point that these stories should be retold, sounds ok to me.

Folk will argue your point saying that they are actually saying n#g#a, which they say is a black man with a gold rope around his neck. This in my opinion is not acceptable either. The NFL have been discussing a new rule whereby any team who were to hire an ethnic minority coach would get a higher draft pick of the best players coming out of college and thus gaining an advantage over their opponents. 70% of all players in the NFL are black. Of the 32 starting Quarterbacks in the 2020 NFL, 9 are black. Yet all I constantly hear is that there is racial inequality against black Quarterbacks The new ruling also states that you must now interview at least 2 ethnic minorities for any head coaching position. Surely you can see if 70% of players are black and there’s only 35% starting QBs there’s an issue? Black guys are viewed as not being as clever so are less likely to be QB in HS and college. They are usually more athletic and used in other positions, but guys like Patrick Mahomes buck that trend. Let’s not mention Colin Kaepernick who was one the top rated QBs in his career and has been ostracised for 3 years. The Rooney rule is being updated in the NFL and is also used in the EFL but not the EPL. Do you have a problem with that?

Certainly more food for thought than the trite slogans on demonstrators placards. Silence =violence, no-one is equal until everyone is equal . And so on. Generally I think the comments tend toward complacency on the part of relatively well off and privileged people. But they reflect points made by Jesse Jackson years ago about the need for some personal responsibility however difficult ,,, for example in being a father to your children. And the black on black killing statistiics suggest that too many blacks act as if black lives don't matter. Other deprived and poor sectors of society have not suffered quite the same disastrous breakdown of family units as black America. I shouldn't have to say it but of course that doesn't excuse police brutality nor the contribution racism in society has made to the position of blacks in America and elsewhere. You hire the best person for the job no matter what the colour of their skin is, the point is people of colour are not even given the opportunity because of thoughts like you’ve intimated up there. You could say the same about working class folk or the disabled, positive discrimination has its merits. As for Kaepernick you are probably correct but do you think there are 90-100 better QBs than him in the NFL? He should most likely be a back up somewhere, he has been discriminated against. We are a great running team and his play action is amazing but when we need to pass we struggle, as the Super bowl showed. The fact that nobody has given him a chance shows most teams owners, none of whom have backed BLM in any way, shows they do care about the colour of your skin. And random acts of violence and vandalism are just wrong. Thanks for the reply, Adam. The video's creators describe themselves as: "MRCTV is an online media platform designed to broadcast conservative values, culture, politics, liberal media bias, and entertainment to a new and diverse audience on a social media optimized site." I just personally prefer us to grab facts from the web (duly vetted of course ) but to form our own opinions. There are too many folk out there on the web with an agenda and it is too easy to be drawn into those agendas. Anyway, back to the issue in question. I have to admit that I probably have views that are contrary to many of the views expressed on here. I think that a significant problem with racism does exist and that BAME minorities are discriminated against. I also believe that the States in particular has a problem with heavy-handed police actions, but the large proportion of gun ownership may well be a significant contributor to that. I think that both issues should be kept active in the public mind until they are issues no longer. On the other hand I abhor violence against other people. I also detest looting and the destruction of private businesses who are innocents in all this. A minority of BLM protestors have indulged in those acts, including I would imagine a number of folk who don't have the movement at heart but just ride it piggy-back for the violence and looting. Wherever possible they should be identified and prosecuted. I agree that the demonstrations shouldn't have happened, but can understand why they did in the States. It annoys me greatly that they are taking place in the UK. Why is it that when America catches cold, the rest of the world has to sneeze? At any other time, I would be pleased to see folk out demonstrating peacefully. I think that such acts are important in a society which wants to continually improve itself and the life of its citizens. But doing so right now in the middle of a pandemic, I'm not too pleased about at all. It's selfish and it endangers our recovery from the pandemic. We could have chosen other, net-related, activities and waited until the pandemic was over to get out there and demonstrate. In saying that, I am pleased that they threw Colston's statue into the water in Bristol. Slavery was atrocious and the perpetrators of it should not be celebrated. I am annoyed that they didn't social distance properly though in doing so. Isn't that weird. I also think that we should examine, carefully and thoughtfully, whether other slavers or perpetrators of slavery are so celebrated, and consider what we should do about it. But not right now, and not in mob fashion. The demonstrators in Bristol have made their point, let's look at this with sober minds now. Actually, looking back at your post, it seems we agree about quite a bit. I'd rather do it this way though than vicariously through other people's videos. Thanks again for your post.
