Good news and good news that places like Asda are stepping up their enforcement of masks too

How was the application process?

No being funny but outbreaks in universities wouldn’t be concerning me considering the vast majority will be young and fit enough to fight it off. Suppose the issue is them running round spreading it but if they have decided to imprison them with jacked up Covid police keeping them in line then all will be well.

Got to hope the naughty young students don’t go around having fun as that would be disastrous.

Only so much porn someone can watch. Even young students. Be walking round with a quagmire muscle arm.

Let's also hope that they don't go back home and spread it to their parents & grandparents, now that would be disastrous, not for the students mind but for their older relatives.

Suppose that’s a risk. Can’t just blame the students though can we. Older relatives, mums and dads should know better by not allowing them to visit. Everyone blaming the youngsters here but not willing to take responsibility for their stupidity as well.

let the youngsters get on with it and if your not comfortable shield yourself. Simple as.

True. Think it would be wise of those with any pre-existing medical issues to avoid them when they go home. Similar to avoiding those in work who have been in prolonged contact with a mixture of people in their day to day jobs should probably on see elderly relatives from a socially distanced vantage.

It's no one's fault really.Even if they are not going out partying some will inadvertently spread it through jobs they do if they have been infected in their accomodation.Doesnt mean it's their fault just means they never knew they had it at that time.I said not to blame anyone but governments really should have known the risks involved in the students living together in groups.

Fresher's week always leads to outbreaks of various illnesses as thousands of people from all over the world cram together in halls of residence

Common colds, flu, stomach bugs, STDs, all do the rounds in the first few weeks of term.

Students are just being made to quarantine this year because one of those illnesses is currently a global pandemic.

How is that not the point  that is the whole entire point  a better response would be to say a huge surge in cases might result in a surge in deaths in 3 weeks to a month. Its obviously out of control again, we just need to wait and see.

I ended up at the hospital after getting a chest infection that I couldn’t get rid of when I was at University. Illnesses spread like wildfire in halls.

Exactly, I would like to see daily numbers on people reporting ‘long Covid’. that would be a good way to add to people’s fears

The other day you moaned and groaned that you couldn't visit your parents, so imagine this, you are a student and your parents told you to stay away as they didn't want you to visit them.

How would you feel about that, especially if it's your first time away from home and your scared you catch Covid in your halls of residence, I can't speak for other parents but I know neither myself or Mrs JJ would turn away one of our kids in that situation.

Oh and by the way, I haven't blamed anybody least at all students, just to set the record straight.

Aii i moaned but more that she should not be alone. My dad won’t allow that. He will be up everyday as part of my Nana’s extended bubble. Considering i work with the public despite my  unhappiness at it, it wouldn’t be wise to visit her at this time.

anyways, it is good that you don’t blame the students.

Firstly please refrain from name calling.

also you should know by now that increased cases will naturally lead to increased hospitalisations and deaths sadly

Following through the charts there is absolutely no evidence the increase in cases is being mirrored in deaths or ICU admissions. Given the pattern you'd have expected this to have occurred by now. Come next Friday if the pattern is coming the deaths will be starting to justify the actions.

Without getting into a debate about measure/lockdowns etc, the 7 day average for Hospitals and Deaths are starting to go up (Deaths is still so low its hard to take too much from it but if you look at the UK figures it suggests things are going in the wrong direction)

At the start of September cases were 1340 and deaths 7.9 (7 day average) as off yesterday that had gone up to 4960 and 28.1

Those rises were not happening over the summer months

Students Getting the blame for just being well students ! This was bound to happen so why wasn’t there mass testing if them before they began their studies ? Anyway the good news is once is went through them like a fire they will be fine and get on with student life . It can be a lonely and isolating time being a first year student and I think there is a significant risk of suicide in that bracket too .
demonising them won’t help

If the deaths don’t dramatically rise just wait 6/7/8 weeks. Then in 6/7/8 weeks time if they still haven’t then you just wait another 6/7/8.
