Any variant, with or without vaccine, the vast majority of people will have no or mild symptoms. Those with other health issues or who are particularly vulnerable were more at risk from complications. The vaccine offers 94% protection against serious illness or death from any variant therefore the only people who could possibly be "locked down" at Christmas would be those for whom the vaccine doesn't work.
