The latest trend data. Cases looking stable and slowly declining. There was a significant drop today in numbers of folk with Covid in hospital. Also a rise in the number of first vaccinations which could indicate the beginning of vaccination of a new cohort.

I quite liked him at first tbh, but the longer the pandemic went on and the more depressed and pissed off I got with the whole thing, the more I wanted to mount the coffee table and boot his head off through the telly. Nobody likes the bearer of consistently bad tidings eh. For the above see also Sturgeon, that Devi lassie, other assorted experts, and around 90% of folk on this thread.

Cheaper turning the telly  off/over, bud.

There was a bit of a blip in the "Calders" neighborhood, although that seems to have subsided in the last couple of days.

I only use the the figures from 3 days ago as they are based on specimen dates and the last couple of days have incomplete data.  Edinburgh's case rate should fall over the next three days, probably back below 20.

It’s fallen below 20 so you’ll be hard pressed to find any in most regions of Lothian

The 7 day / 100k measure used by the SG, WHO, @redjambo and myself, to determine levels, hasn't dropped below 20.

The official PHS published rate for Edinburgh is 27.2 (to 24 April).  The reduction in cases reported over the last three days suggest that figure will drop in coming days as the oldest days' data drops out the rolling 7 day figure.

Edit: The quoted figure comes from a calculation of the total number of positive cases recorded over a 7 day period divided by the number of 100,000s in an area's population.

In this case, Edinburgh has reported 143 cases over the 7 day period (to 24 April).  The  population estimate for Edinburgh that is used is 524,930, so the 100k factor is 5.25.  Divide 143 by 5.25 and you get 27.2.

West Lothian has got its act together pretty quickly.

CEC was below 20 for a short while.

Is there a reason, any hot spots?

There don't appear to be any major hotspots as such, imo, although The Calders (as FF mentioned) and Niddrie have had elevated levels. If you go to https://www.travellingtabby.com/scotland-coronavirus-tracker/local , scroll down to the Cases by Intermediate Zone table, type Edinburgh into the box at the top LHS, and then click on Per 100k Pop heading, then you will see the local areas with the greatest per-capita case rates (the first bit of which I've pasted below):

Which, of course you can read all about that Covid is a hoax in his new book.

And that's the gist of the article, to promote his new book in the hope that the gullible buy it.

The 6 cases that Travelling Tabby recorded for the Calders yesterday, is half of what it was three days earlier. It has gone up by 1 to 7 in today's figures.  The localised 7 day /100k rate has fallen from 256 on 20 Apr to 149 on 24 Apr.

Yup. Great news as it is, that's raw daily cases though, not the 7-day per-capita rates that we were talking about. Also, the original question was about hotspots in the City of Edinburgh, not the Lothians in general. So, apples and pears.

Nice one. That's what we like to see. Rapid detection and limiting of any local outbreaks (if I'm understanding your data correctly).

The reason that we can be reasonably confident that Edinburgh's rate will fall is that the 7 day / 100k rate of 27.2 comes from daily figures of 24, 21, 30, 21, 22, 12 and 13 (for a total of 143).  The rolling 7 day total needs to drop below 105 to get the 7 day rate below 20.   If the 24, 21 and 30 drop off and are replaced by a trend of 13, 12, 11 over the next three days, then the 7 day total will drop to 104, which would take the city's 7 day/100k average marginally below 20.

Christ, that old twat again, the ****ing aids denialist. No one should have any truck with this moron.

The flu numbers are quite obviously down because of a combination of:

- viral interference
- lockdowns
- masks
- increased hygiene
- social distancing

Makes perfect sense, since the flu is less contagious than Covid-19. No doubt the "common sense" mob are going to claim the two viruses are interchangable, again. 🙄
