Im an earlier riser by nature. Though just did a quick hitt workout and shower and feel back to normal. I’ll take the dog a walk and get fresh air before getting ready for BBQ today,

I have best of intentions of only having a couple but it’s BBQ, I will drink more than I should and probably be an arse on here later 🤷🏻‍♂️

Though looking forward to catching up with some people on this lovely spring day.

nothing new there then :whistling:

The success of the vaccine in Israel is incredible even as they remove restrictions.

If we properly control our borders to avoid variants coming in we may be very very near the end of this.

It's a sunny day and pubs open next week. Things are looking up.

Following on from yesterday about the pub issue in Scotland i thought this was a good article ;

Does Nicola Sturgeon really care what happens to Scotland’s hotels, restaurants and pubs?

The treatment of hospitality on either side of the border is one of the worst aspects of the "be different from Boris" attitude of Sturgeon.

The stark contrast between the attitudes of the UK and Scottish governments in their treatment of the hospitality industry begs the obvious question: Does Nicola Sturgeon really care what happens to Scotland’s hotels, restaurants and pubs?

It arises when we compare the UK Communities Secretary Robert Jenrick’s plea to English local authorities to be lenient in the way they enforce social distancing rules in outdoor venues with the hard-line approach outlined on Thursday by Dr Gregor Smith, Scotland chief medical officer, and one of the First Minister’s principal advisors.

With pubs and restaurants in England permitted to serve drinks outdoors for nearly two weeks, Mr Jenrick urged councils not be ‘overzealous’ in ordering customers to stay one metre apart. But with Scottish pub gardens due to have the same relaxation in four days time Dr Smith insisted that the one-metre social distancing remained firmly part of the Scottish Government’s rules.

He defended the one metre rule because, he said, there was a "theoretical" risk of Covid, whether people were indoors or outdoors and added: "That’s why the guidance still says that even if you're outdoors, if you're not from the same households as others sitting at the same table there should be that distancing in place just to make sure it's as safe as possible."

And Dr Smith held out little hope for the immediate future, saying that the Scottish guidelines were ‘ a good way off’ changing.

There has been little evidence of one-metre distancing within groups since the sector reopened in England.

There has been little evidence of one-metre distancing within groups since the sector reopened in England CREDIT: Bloomberg.

By way of contrast and although the rules for the hospitality industry are roughly the same on both sides of the border, in a letter to English councils Mr Jenrick said the UK government’s priority was to allow businesses to open safely and to "avoid overzealous interpretation of the rules".

He added that hard-line tactics, or what he called a "disproportionate regulatory approach" was in danger of driving people towards insecure and "possibly illegal activity".

The treatment of the relevant hospitality concerns on either side of the border is easily one of the worst aspects of the "always be different from Boris" attitude of Scotland’s First Minister. Throughout this pandemic she has sought to keep clear blue water between herself and the Prime Minister - whether it’s been on lockdowns, international travel or vaccine roll-outs. But it has been on the respective treatment of restaurants and pubs by both administrations which has been the most damaging to Scotland’s economy.

In an industry that is vital to this country’s well being - much more so than is the case in England - the treatment of hospitality venues by Sturgeon has seemed, at times, almost perverse. And contrary to some parts of popular opinion it’s not because she’s a total abstainer; as far as I’m aware she enjoys an occasional  ‘refreshment’.

Mr Jenrick’s words are spot on. Many people are already ignoring what they see as Scotland’s over-rigid approach to the lockdown, especially when they see the more relaxed approach being adopted in England. And any sign of a crackdown for minor breaches of the social distancing rules after Monday’s partial re-opening is bound to be counterproductive.

Moreover, given the confusing muddle that many restaurant and pub owners find themselves in over what they say are new government guidelines on indoor distancing, but which the First Minister insists is not new, there is a desperate need for a statement to clear the air for landlords as they prepare for Monday.

They have bent over backwards to comply with every dot and comma of her restrictions and local authorities should be told that their job is to support their local businesses - not harass them.

It is Nicola Sturgeon’s responsibility to issue that order. It’s way past time Scotland’s hospitality industry was given a fighting chance of survival.

Good article.  No-one was aware of any 1m rule last year, other than Nicola Sturgeon, within groups at the same table. You sat at a table with friends or family and the "theoretical risk" of transmission was accepted. Whether or not it was written down somewhere on govt documents is neither here nor there. It didn't form any part of the rules enforced by hospitality. How could you possibly sit 1m away from others at the same table, while having a meal?? Pouring wine or passing the tabasco sauce, from 1m away, would be worth seeing.  It simply wasn't a requirement last year.  To introduce it now and pretend that hospitality is open is disingenuous in the extreme.  Pretending that folk will hop over the border to Scotland to a restaurant that doesn't serve alcohol, closes at 8pm and has ridiculous social distancing rules is laughable.  Think most would prefer sitting normally with friends in an English beer garden. The hospitality industry has been scapegoated from day 1 of that "short, sharp" 16 day lockdown about 6 months ago.

There's a link about industry leaders reacting to the 1m rule from last year.

Also, I don't think 1m is as big as you seem to think it is in your head.

There were places - such as Boroughmuir Rugby Club - that could've operated perfectly safely throught the entire 16 day 'circuit break'.

There was a 1m distancing rule.

Who hears that and thinks Yeah, but surely not at tables?

People might not have been paying attention to it, it might not have been enforced very often (although I witnessed it getting enforced in Falkirk), but it was undeniably there.

You're getting confused between the 1m BETWEEN tables and while "on the floor". Never at the same table. No chance. Listen to the hospitality industry, they say you would need a 3.5m table which nobody has. It has to be specially manufactured. Only Nicola Sturgeon and some on here seem to think it existed. They would have to ask "who's with who" for every group and arrange seating plans. It is arrant nonsense

They're wasn't a general 1m social distancing rule?

There was a general 1m rule, a general "wear a mask" rule and sanitising stations. There were no "rules" when you were seated in your "bubble" at the table.

I cant ever recall being told to be 1m away from others when I was in a restaurant.  I have seen the 1m rule enforced in pubs though.

I agree there was a 1m rule but it didn't apply to those sitting at the same table. That's why they made it 3 households,  then reduced it to 2, to reduce the "theoretical" risk that couldn't be mitigated by social distancing.

Tbf I do think it's a bit silly and unworkable. Worst comes worst you just say you live together. It was never something I was ever asked about last time and haven't been asked about when booking this time I just remember tables being a bit less "busy" with chairs.

In the town the day and the polis were in Princes Street gardens en masse ! Must have been about 10 of them . There were various groups of lads and  girls all behaving and  causing no bother . Enjoying the sun and probably drinking . Pc plod moved them on and literally kettled about 40/50 of them out the gardens . Shocking really . Welcome to police  state Scotland sponsored by the SNP in the pretext of covid . It’s a futile endeaver as they all probably went elsewhere anyway . I’m surprised  none of the young people kicked off or challenged the Polis  as they were not breaking any Laws .The polis actually escalated it and could have caused a riot . They would have been better standing back and just keeping an eye on things and having a word with anyone who was maybe starting to misbehave . Police by consent

Perhaps the Police's action was pre-emptive and designed to avoid a repeat of the brawling that happened on the Meadows a couple of weeks ago.

It is actually an offence to drink alcohol in a public space at the moment.  In more normal times Edinburgh is actually more lenient in terms of by-laws than in other parts of Scotland, e.g. Glasgow stopped drinking in public in 1996.

Doesn’t surprise me you would be supportive of their initiative . They could have been far more tolerant . It was aggressive policing and sets dangerous precedents regardless of covid or not . It’s also not a viable lomg time strategy either .

Yes.  I am aware that it is an offence at the current time to drink outside but they weren’t all drinking.  It was just targeting a specific group really . I think it’s called racial profiling of a specific . Yes the problem is the SG might keep this policy after “ Covid “it’s a policy they have indicated they would support due to their Puritanical outlook regarding booze and people’s right to enjoy themselves

Lots of youths drinking in Princes St gardens in a massive group? When did that become OK?

Plenty other parks to go to other than the city's jewels where the police will care less.

Then why post "probably drinking" and "not breaking any laws".

Exactly what I came to post. These aren’t all normal people, there are serious bampots among them. The first video clip I saw included a banner with nonsense about cabals of paedophiles, another about “leave out children alone” the conspiracy nut’s favourite trope. Idiots wearing yellow stars comparing COVID to a genocide of a religious group.

I'm not choosing a narrative, YOU shared a video from someone calling these folk "normal" - when the reality is that some of the characters that the crowd contains shows that it is full of the usual gullible idiots, conspiracy theorists, generally unhinged lunatics and some seriously self-entitled narcisstic morons who don't understand history or what real oppression or genocide actually is.

No need to get all humpty when your cut n paste posts, that further your preferred narrative, are shown to be only one piece of the picture.

Nucky Thompson

Had a great day in the sun in Northumberland. Scorchio.

A Few pints and a BBQ back at my fellow Scots friend's Lodge.

90% Scottish people here on holiday.

The park manager was advised by the UK government not to stop Scottish people. No border between Scotland and England

Thank you Boris :smugger:

This is what I have a problem with.  I damn well wouldn't want any common cause with someone like that.

Regulations relaxed further in Scotland apparently you can now pick up someone else’s child - the fish with an snp candidates child

You just can’t sit within 1 metre of your own grown up children from another household in a restaurant or bar

The rules don't apply to Sturgeon, we learnt that last year, no need to go over old ground.

'oops, I'm kicking myself' is the get of jail free card to use.
