Is the EICC a walk in for second jabs ? I heard it was ? I’m meant to be getting the second one tomorrow but it’s at the Gyle and that’s a trek for me whereas EICC nearby

From yesterday, yes. No idea how long you'd be likely to queue for.

Bit of perspective on the rise of cases in the Borders, out of the 68 recorded cases 46 of them are at one Primary school in Galashiels, which is now closed.

I think that this kind of scenario is going to be occurring quite frequently around the country, JJ. However, I just have to point out that the 68 figure for Scottish Borders in the table isn't a raw figure of cases, it's a 7-day per-100,000 (per-capita) statistic.

I went along to EICC and got my second jab . I had an appointment for tomorrow but they didn’t mind and there was a very slick operation . No carry on , in and out in 10 mins . Only down side was there was no 6 foot blonde Irish squaddie to jab me ! Just my luck 👎 she was nice enough though . @Lord BJ they said my appointment tomorrow would automatically be cancelled via their system .

The population of the Borders is about 115,000 therefore isn't the figure of 68 (or any other figure) going to be near enough the actual total number of cases over the last 7 days.

The Borders is an area where the 7 day averages are relatively close to actual numbers, as the population figure used is 115,510.

The population distribution also leads to localised peaks which appear disproportionately high, e.g. Galashiels South has a 7 day/100k average of 750 (25 cases) and Galashiels West 401 (12 cases), both most likely related to the school outbreak.

Edit: JJ just beat me to it.

Yes indeed. However, we had a problem in the past with folk thinking that the case figures in the table were raw data and so I just wanted to point that out so that we were all clear about what those figures represent. :thumb:

I went along to EICC and got my second jab . I had an appointment for tomorrow but they didn’t mind and there was a very slick operation . No carry on , in and out in 10 mins . Only down side was there was no 6 foot blonde Irish squaddie to jab me ! Just my luck 👎 she was nice enough though . @Lord BJ they said my appointment tomorrow would automatically be cancelled via their system .

The Irish squaddies are all doing the Gyle tomorrow, I heard. ;)

Yes indeed. However, we had a problem in the past with folk thinking that the case figures in the table were raw data and so I just wanted to point that out so that we were all clear about what those figures represent. :thumb:

I can see how some people would make that mistake by not realising that the figures were per 100k.

Your point was of course completely salient, JJ, and I'm sorry if I took the focus away from it with my purely statistical comment. The Borders cases do indeed appear to be largely composed of the school outbreak if 46 cases have been reported from the school within the last week.

No need to be, no offence taken.

Can add at least another schoolkid to that total, as my Grandson's class was sent home as one of their classmates has tested positive, this is in Jedburgh, and I'm hearing on the grapevine that there is an outbreak at a school in Peebles as well, although that's just a rumour at present.

Wasn't someone saying on here last week, that primary schools seemed to be where most of the outbreaks were.

Everyone had to provide proof of vaccination, so they said during the commentary.

Record attendance as well, seemingly.

Hampden is the only ground out of all the stadia being used that does not require any proof of being double jabbed or a negative test. Not even a temperature check. What a feckin shambles.
