Reflection time.  When a young Naismith was banging them in for Everton in the Premiership, and we were struggling to pay wages and keep the lights on, did anyone think that 5/6 years later we’d be signing him on a 4 year deal?

Me neither.  This is what progress looks like.  Time to be positive.

Well said. We forget sometimes where we have come from.

I think we'll get at least two good years out of him if he can stay injury free for most of it, the last two years of the deal are a total punt regards what he'll bring.

Think some of the Hobos will be seething with the news, as they were laughing their c**ks off when Naismith got his injuries last season!

Now their player is in the same position Boyle),whilst I don't like to see any player suffer, I hope it will reel their necks in and see it as not great to slag off and wish for the worst for any player whoever they play for!!!

Delighted with this signing and imo the 4 year deal is to take him into coaching with us which would be brilliant! I know it’s all speculation etc but what do you think we are paying him a week

Fantastic signing. He scores and creates goals, he's versatile and with his work rate he takes defenders out the game which creates space for others. He's also a big leader on the pitch and you can tell that like so many players that sign for us he realises what a special club HMFC is.

Of course the only caveat is he needs to stay fit and I would expect the manager will be thinking carefully about what sort of training he should be doing.

I'd guess no more than £5k per week.

5 grand a week works out at 1 million over his contract.

Think that will be ball park .

Pure guess work though .

We’ve already paid him £375k then, worth every penny.

Same said the same when Aaron Hughes signed tbf.

Plenty of our younger players have said Hughes has been a huge influence on them. Souttar, Cochrane are two that come to mind.

How old was Kenny Miller when he ripped the piss out of us at Murrayfield? 37?

Naismith is a better all round player than Miller.

Nope, not FICK. Numerically challenged maybe. Definitely not FICK. Sometimes no very bright, usually alcohol at the root of that. Anyway, he's NOT YET 33.

delighted with this. Obvious was expected but still great to see it over the line.

Interesting that Naismith confirmed in his interview on the website that both him and club want him to be a coach, though he says he wants to fully concentrate on playing first (so could be a few years down the line before it happens.)

A 4 year deal for someone who is 33 next year and had serious injury problems!

Easy seeing why the rest of the squad is utter @#sh, all our eggs are in the one basket.

I like Naismith and he makes huge difference to our team but 4 years.....

Actually...

Naismith turns 33 in a few weeks, he's 34 next year.

If what a previous poster is correct, it is very encouraging that he will play some part at least on Sunday.  Will give all the players a boost.

I'm sure they will all consider him to be one of the foremost attacking players in the country and has the ability to make them all better players.

Shame that I'll be sleeping through it all but I'm confident I'll waken to a much more encouraging match report.

Naismith oozes confidence in a team which lack that despite having several good players who would be the envy of many of the Cubs we compete with.

I just hope it's infectious and helps us to be competitive in every game.

Regardless of the result, I hope people will say on Sunday that we pushed forward and competed all over the park.

Tend to agree with people on here who have said that until our midfield is strengthened, Halkett should play there and Berra should play at the back.

Souttar has said Berra more than anyone but fair enough.  Hughes was a waste of money imo.

Got to hope he has a better season with injuries and more luck. The life was completely sucked out of us when he was out last season. I genuinely think we would have won the cup last season if he was fit to play the final.

Fantastic player and great role model for the young lads. Absolutely delighted we have got him on a permanent deal. Hopefully he goes into coaching and is in our dug out once he's finished playing.

First game back after lengthy time off..and he scores! What a great guy.

I don’t know what Ann Budge is paying Steven Naismith but if I was Levein

i’d be giving him a heathy wedge for keeping him in a job.

What a joy to see the instinct  n release from a player who's been sitting  it out working away . missing big match time .

Sexton Hardcastle

So did he aggravate his injury when away with Scotland?

The deal starts to looks more and more ridiculous and in line with our other recent stupid long term deals.
