There is something decidedly creepy and unsettling about this painting, I mean what's the thought process of someone wanting to portray themselves sitting alongside long dead presidents whom they never ever met, what's next a painting of Trump sitting next to Julius Caeser, Alexander the Great, Gengis Khan, Ramesses II & Nebuchadnezzar II, portraying himself as a great ruler like the rest in the painting.

Maybe forget Nebuchadnezzar II as there is no way Trump would know who he was.

Is that Arnie Palmer on his right? And what's Reagan drinking?

I take it this is for his own enjoyment and not to be hung in the National Gallery of Art.

Bush Snr (standing), Reagan, Bush, Ike, Gerry Ford (standing), Trump, Roosevelt, Nixon and Lincoln I think is the lot.

If I had the money I might get something similar done with Hearts greats all in a team photo style to hang in the house.

He'd definitely know the name (20 bottles or 15 litres of bubbly).

Also, the worst part about that painting is the notion that Lincoln, who was a wrestler before he became President, wouldn't have kicked the shit out of the Donald on first sight.

And for that matter, TR was a man for whom military service was the highest of all honors. Enough said.

I think Grant is in the background on the far left (can't imagine why Trump's fans didn't want to put the lion of Reconstruction at his table), with Harding, Coolidge, and someone else I don't recognize looking in on the right.

"Yessuh, Mistuh Donald. I'll surely be makin' that Diet Coke extruh icy nex' time. Sorry, Mistuh Donald."

Not that people making excuses for the Saudi's, or ignoring the cash they throw at respective world countries, mostly in defence contracts is a new fad...but his chat with the Saudi King, about this Turkish Journalist who's vanished, was interesting.

"Mr Trump addressed snatched questions from reporters over helicopter engine noise at the White House, describing King Salman's denial as "very, very strong".

"It sounded to me like maybe these could have been rogue killers," he added. "Who knows?"

Are there many of these "rogue killers" roaming the hallways of embassies? Why would the Saudi's say they've no idea where he went, despite cctv showing him enter the Embassy, but not coming back out? Then why would you tell Trump he's probably been killed. Then probably killed by "rogue killers." Fascinating terminology.

I get the feeling, if the Saudi's had said a passing circus were visiting, & just so happened Mr. Jashoggi was mauled to death by a Lion, Trump might repeat that on the news too.

As i say, that's not an indictment of Trump. As countless Goverment's turn the other way over Saudi conduct, past and present. Ours included.

Thought there would be a thread on that subject oddly enough. Weird case. Blatantly been killed, mind.

The one pretext for the Iraq war which I found even remotely justifiable was that we were trying to create an ally in the Arab world so that we could finally stop being attached at the hip to the Saudis. I mean it was still a dumb reason to fight a war but being handcuffed to the Saudis wasn't good for us, and was part of the justification for the 11 Sep 2001 attacks.

Part of Obama's failing in the region was that he didn't work harder to cut the ties (he was trying to by smoothing things over with Iran, however much the Republicans in the Senate blew their lids about it). Trump's desire to jump in feet first with them to the point of doing the glowy orb photo op is just another way he seems to find the worst possible direction to go and pick it.

If you have ever been to Trump Tower (or seen pictures of any of his other proprties) by Trump's standards that is almost tasteful.

It seems like only Republican presidents matter, even two (the Bushes) who despise him.

The Trumpet is taking partisanship to a new level.

A previous poster suggested that there may be lines of cocaine on the table so there's a fair chance O'Connor's in the picture somewhere, although it would surely be hard to miss him given his size.

Even CNN hasn't (to my knowledge, anyway) picked up on these latest manifestations of his lunacy. Just when you think he can't, he manages to "out-farcical" himself.

Right, because Trump's office is as President of the Republican Party.

Not that this is even the least bit important, mind, but it is yet another breach of longstanding norms. But it's pretty emblematic of McConnell's scorched earth GOP, so why not bother flying the flag in the open...

Doesn't "Donny's newly commissioned artwork" mean he ordered it or authorized it?

I wouldn't get myself painted either way.  It's too narcissistic for my taste.

And Trump is supposed to be the President for all Americans, not just those of his own party.  The painting is just the latest demonstration of why he's a lousy leader.

You do realise it was a gift from a Republican Senator and that Trump neither requested, commission or paid for it. To be honest your response sounds like you've lost the plot over Trump.

I was wrong just checked some of the stories and I was confused when he stated now I can go after horseface, for all Stormy can be criticised for having a horseface is not one of them. Trump really is a foul mouthed oaf. He always acts the hard man I wonder how many fights he has been in, and how many men he has insulted to their face, not many I guess. Anyway horseface is not as bad as having the world know you have a wee weenie shaped like a toadstool. Stormy wins.

I dislike Trump because he's a self-confessed abuser of women, a pathological liar, and a racist who isn't fit to hold elected office anywhere.  I hope that clarifies things for you.

I assume that you'd don't admire such a man, so your willingness to speak up for him is surprising.  Perhaps I'm wrong; maybe you do admire him.

Get over it. Donald’s a great chap.

I for one would love to meet him. Being half Scottish I am sure that we would get on like a house on fire.

The continued sequence and complaining tone with regard to your Trump dialogue leads me to this conclusion –

You are upset and filled with malice and seethe that Trump has his own town and fire brigade and you don’t. And TV show. And clock.

Avenatti just said of Trump something to the effect, "this is what happens when you elect a moron to the office of POTUS".

I wouldn't trust the guy as far as I could chuck him but in this instance he most definitely has a point. :smoking:

The BBC is suggesting that October has been President Trump’s most successful month ever.

In the BBC article published on Tuesday, author Nick Bryant said Trump was experiencing a pattern of achievements with the new NAFTA deal, a bipartisan opioid initiative, his recent dealings with the media, the best jobs market in decades and by giving the Supreme Court “a decisive conservative majority.”

“His crowning achievement, though, was getting his second nominee onto the Supreme Court, giving America’s highest court a decisive conservative majority for the first time in decades,” he wrote. “That alone instantly gives Donald Trump a legacy.”

I do so retrospectively you understand.

I said it at the time, getting Kavanaugh onto the Supreme Court was a huge victory for Trump, and one that will make him a hero to American conservatives.

The USMCA is merely a revised NAFTA, but Trump can rightly claim that he kept a campaign promise.

The American economy is doing well, but it has been for about 9 years, and most of the major economies in the world are doing well also.

None of that changes the fact that the man is a (mod delete) and deserving of contempt from most reasonable people.

However, as time goes by and events unfold I seem to like Trump more.
