I was good mates at school with the eldest son of the goalkeeper D Dewar in this photo (also used to go to Hearts games with him). I think @bobsharp knew him from his police days?? Pretty sure his middle son is the current CEO of Edinburgh Airport. Dougie in the photo was a golfing and drinking buddy of my father’s back in the 70s.

Yes I knew Dewar to some extent, most of them played as I did in their Divisional team, so we met in games. J Hall I am sure was the man who joined ECP after a career with Queen of the South. My self description of me as a football player was big strong and slower than a snail. Never coached at any stage in his life and it showed, but keen and tried hard.

I've found another angle of this 'site' with the Hunter's truck.

Related image

As can be seen it's across Earl Grey Street from Central Hall at Tollcross. So possibly from Riego Street.

Good find bud, it’s definitely the same buildings opposite Central Hall :thumb:

St Mary’s Street

Can't work this out at all ... is it meant to be at the Cowgate/Pleasance or HS/Jeffrey Street?  Or somewhere up the street, perhaps opposite Boyd's Entry?

I previous photo of the same building with more surrounding perspective seems to suggest at the Cowgate.

Just went onto google earth to find that building on St Mary’s Street. No wonder I had no joy, it’s gone :(

 Great detective work:thumb:

I think what's also confusing (well, for me anyway) are the road inclines, both going up the Cowgate (steeper) and up St Mary's Street (flatter) than how you perceive it today.  Camera angle maybe.

Looks like the top of St Mary’s Street/Royal Mile looking towards Corner of Jeffrey Street.

Edit: never mind, all the buildings look the same on google maps.

Yup, that’s exactly what was throwing me too. It looked too flat for St Mary’s Street.
