Big thanks for this one. I sent it to my mum and she thinks that is her gran at the window of her first floor flat to the left, where she grew up as a child.

That's great.  When I've been looking at all the photos for this thread, I always keep an eye out for me, or someone I know.

The White Hart Inn in just out of the picture on the left.

Some of the tenement behind the fire no longer there, replaced by “Thomson’s Court” building. The part of it to the right of the close (Thomson’s Close) is still there.

I was just looking at that when I saw your post.

:rofl:Was thinking the same when I read the name. Was hoping you would say yes :(

Aye, it's a real name.

The family I know used to live in Canaan Lane and one of the sons (I'll not tell you his nickname or you'll really think I'm at it :) ) moved to Woodburn Terrace.

In fact, the other son had a dodgy as feck name too!

What a family.

Bert Demarco Sr with a young Stephen Hendry.

I used to play a bit of snooker in my younger days at the Marcos clubs.

John Spenser former World Champion was friends with the Demarco family and used to sometimes practice there and I used to re spot the balls for him.

Here's another one.

Corner building on the left is the end of Morrison St - where Pret currently is - with Lothian Rd in the background.

And before the Kings Theatre came along this is how the site it now occupies looked.

The building on the left with the 3 corner windows facing you is still there, it's the junction of Tarvit Street & Drumdryan Street.

What the heck is that chimney in the background? Looks like the factory would almost be on the meadows.

Yeh was wondering about that as well, I've looked at old maps but can't see anything which looks like a chimney.

Yeah, think you’re right. At first glance, I thought it was the shadow of the gutter. Would have to be, there is no traffic light in view.

Great work bud. Yet another brewery, must have been some amount of jakeys back then. What amazed me most about that map, was the gardens diagonally opposite the Kings.

You’re good at this game.

Edinburgh history, in particular, old Edinburgh photography, is in my top 5 interests.

Spend thousands of hours of researching this stuff.

Edit: also helps I have access to some archives that some won't.

What’s the house in front of those gardens, just out of shot?

So the chimney has been solved, but that's not the only thing solved today.

I knew Leven Lodge used to be on the site of the Kings Theatre and was knocked down to make way for the Kings, what I didn't know was it's exact location, but I do now thanks to this map.

My G-G-G-G Grandfather died there between 1822 & 1828.

This thread is one of the best that I’ve ever seen on here, but little things like this just make it that bit more special. I felt it yesterday when my mother saw the Grassmarket picture and now this. Love it folks :thumb:

Excellent, cheers.

By the looks of things Leven Lodge must have been up the alleyway to the right of the Kings (blue bins) and on the older photos just to the left of Thomsons Oatmeal, as there looks like there is steps and a vennel leading towards the back from Leven Street.

Everything on both yours and my photo was knocked down to make way for the Kings Theatre, the building next to the blue bins looks to be the same building as in the early photo's of the Kings.
