You did your best, can’t ask for more than that.

Cheers again.

I can recognise Frogston Road but wow, that must be a pretty old photo.  I’m guessing early to mid 60’s?

I am not sure early to mid sixties can or should be described as old, just experienced I think is more appropriate.:greggy:

Right, we’ve had this for years but don’t know exactly where in Edinburgh it is.  We have two ‘educated guesses’ however.

Where do you lot think it is?

Did you get anywhere with this Morgan?

I noticed Bob mentioned W Richmond Street. The tenements pictured seem to have 5 storeys. That area had a massive slum clearance in 1929, and some streets, like North an South Richmond Streets, totally disappeared. There aren't many 5 Storey tenements left.

I've seen old photos of tenements in the area of the same height, with bricked up windows and the wee iron balcony things at some windows, but none that have the same configuration of these things as those in your photo.

It's stupid question time. Have you had the photo out of the frame to see if anything is written on the back?

Not really a stupid question.  More like a logical one.  Yes, we have and, it’s got less writing on it than the Hibs book of Scottish Cup successes!

Jokes apart, we think it is Carrubers Close, just off the High Street.  Not that we are drinkers or anything but, as far as our memory goes, that’s between Deacon Brodies and (going up towards the Castle)  the Ensign Ewart.  Nearer the DB than the EE.

Thanks for asking

I'm not sure if it's too much drink...But Carrubers Close isn't where you think it is.

It's further 'down' the High Street, on the corner of the Mitre Bar. Just down the hill from The Bridges.

You photo looks more like a bit further down the hill and could be opposite The Worlds End.

The only buildings with a similar height and facade on the Royal Mile are where he describes though, the Lawnmarket. Though when you look at all what's there on the pavement, including what appears to be a quite big cart, I don't know if all that would fit on there. That's the area with all the steps down to the road too.

My money's still on the Southside. :D

You are of course correct.

I always had Carrubers Close at the top end of the High Street.

I think the lorry behind the bus is a CDW glass and would have been blue, I spent my apprenticeship fixing them.

I might be wrong, but the name Hendersons springs to mind.

There used to be a Massey Ferguson tractor place there.
