The painting is called ‘Window View at Sighthill’ by artist Donald Provan (1990)

Thanks. Used to live in the middle tower block, Weir Court. Have never seen that painting before.

Looks like Dublin street.

That was my immediate thought; glad to see someone else believes so too. 👍

e: according to my records I have it as Dublin St at Abercrombie Place, 1964.

Mound Motors, don’t ever remember reading about that. Wonder what year that disappeared?

Rutherford's on the left and Stewart's on the right at the old lamppost just past Wood's the barber.

Would have been the Uni refectory still when that was taken.

Definitely. Showing my age but I remember buying the best hot birdies in Edinburgh every day for my lunch in the early seventies from the House of Muir dairy at the top of the street and also the old pharmacy at the bottom with its Latin names on its wooden drawers and glass bottles, all from a different era compared to now.

Coincidently, this morning I was looking at pics of The Shore and it seems to me anyway that the Kings Wark was called Rutherfords in the 50s, circa, although I couldn't really get anything comprehensive off the web.  Stuart?

Don't have any record of it being called Rutherford's and suspect it may be that local's referred to it by the owner's name.

This is (maybe) the gable end of Dalrymple Pl.

I think it became known as the "penny" tenement.

from 1860-61 PO street directory

Thanks for all the info. Might have always been owned by Rutherfords & Co, but every so often been physically named the Kings Wark.  dunno really.

I’m sure that’s now Molly’s Cafe.

Sorry if it's been mentioned before, but it's not Molly's cafe. It's now a house and it's situated roughly halfway between the Kinleith Mill pub and the Railway inn

Built 1962/63 demolished only 34 years later in 1997, obviously not built to last!

I remember walking around the top of the drying greens on top for a dare when I was at secondary school. What an arse.
