Bloody hell, I've joked with the wife for years that Meadow Lane would turn up here eventually. Used to work on my bikes at the double garage at the end (a mate rents them). Think thats/was a Greek church opposite although I think the main door is out of shot to the right.

I've been browsing the National Galleries collections. There are a lot of historic photographs (many of which have been posted on here). Here's a couple of good ones from 1886 and 1894 that I came across this morning.

It took me a minute or so to orientate myself with the photo above, but it all clicked with your your earlier photos of Morningside.

The remainder of the stone was used on the Trinity Church, you can walk through the tunnel to the car park for the Jury’s Inn from Jeffrey Street to see it, or down Chalmers Close from the Royal Mile.

Comiston Rd petrol station, opposite Braidburn Valley Park.    Braid Hills Hotel on the right of the photo.

Looks like it was taken back in the day when some petrol stations employed a man who knew how cars worked, as well as filling up the tank for you.

The guy pictured wasn't looking at the engine in the VW Beetle as it was in the back of the car, in those days.

My first car was a beetle when I was 17, when I went to fill it up it took me ages to find the petrol filling cap  under the bonnet.

Eventually, I got this as Morningside?  I can see the Hermitage Bar and Morningside Drive.

View North over Leopold Place towards Leith and Inchkeith, from Calton Hill in 1869.  Shows a fair bit of separation between Edinburgh and Leith in those days.

Haven't seen that pic before.

The top left corner is in the general direction of the Bellevue area and that was largely a big private estate which was developed much later  (eg the big houses on E Claremont St  and large patches were still unbuilt on even after the war). Interesting to see the large undeveloped areas on the right of pic but a lot of tenements weren't started until 1880s/90s.

Another from the National Galleries collection, dated 1865. I don't know the location (possibly Musselburgh) but the rail information on the coach can be read from the original photo at https://www.nationalgalleries.org/art-and-artists/58267

Through Fares To Edinburgh

1st Class Rail and Inside Coach 10d

2nd Class Rail and Inside Coach 8d

3rd Class Rail and Outside Coach 5d

Other Passengers Charged 2d Inside and 1d Outside For Coach

Most of the passengers look pretty well dressed and some nice little details, such as the golf clubs being carried by what looks like three generations of a family on the right.

Great photo - but a tricky one to place.   I'm assuming the big building is one of Edinburgh's old hospitals, not sure which one.  Maybe the original Royal Infirmary ? Or Craighouse ?

Waverley Bridge, the building on the RHS above the horses is the old Bank of Scotland HQ

Interesting !!      I recognise about 20 of them, but could only remember the names of 8 of those !!    Hearts former lawyer David McLetchie just behind (and to the right) of Donald Dewar.
