Looks like a detective heading for the old police HQ with a big case. Even one of them could solve that one.😇

Hay Avenue?

Another place another story. One Saturday night shift two or three in the morning, a dog, a sort of Pit Bull type started walking about with me like he was mine. It  lasted for close to half an hour. We got to Hay Avenue and I checked the wee shop at the tunnel. We then headed for Hay Avenue. A cat appeared on the street and the dog bolted right after it. The cat ran into a stair in Hay Avenue and the dog followed, the next thing there was the most horrible almost scream and I knew he had got the cat. I took off away out of there. The next night John Castle and I are stepping out of Box 30 Wauchope Avenue and we see a car weaving down the street. We step out and get the driver out of the car, he is a well known Niddrie hard man, and the fight is on, the windae vultures are out on the sills in force ,and yelling like a Celtic crowd at the polis. We get him to the police box put hm in the corner seat, and start to get our breath back. Meanwhile the hard man is bawling and crying, I'm only like this because a  dug killed my cat last night.  Of course compassionate policemen would offer him a break if he cooperated, but it just wan't his time the two he was dealing with weren't.

I’m starting to get the impression you were like one of my mates Bob, he’d book his own granny😁

The road going up the left is Curriehill Road and the road going up and round to the right is Weavers Knowe Crescent.

So the picture is possibly taken above the school?

That's remarkable, another of my late mum''s places of employment, before it relocated to Fife ( I think) she worked there with coleagues Mary Waters & Jack Burns.

Was probably more common than you'd think.

One of my Uncles & Aunts got married (not to each other) in a double wedding just like the above, this was in 1958.

I assume it was related to cost. The thing I hope for more than anything posting some of these old pictures, is that one of the people in the photographs is someone on here, or a relative to someone on here. That would be a special moment🤞

Where was Dalkeith street in Edinburgh at that time? The only Dalkeith Street I know of is in Joppa, it runs parallel to Joppa road between Brunstane Road and Morton street.

That's not the Kirkgate in Leith, is it? Doesn't look like it to me, looks much too suburban and affluent an area to be the old Kirkgate.

I'm a tad sceptical about it being the Joppa Dalkeith street, as I live very close to it and all the current buildings in that street would all have been there in 1955. It looks more like an area of old Edinburgh or perhaps could it be a street in Dalkeith?

My wife, a Portobello girl, thinks Dalkeith Street in Joppa was re-named from something else, but not sure when.

No I suspect I was still a soldier in Egypt when that was taken. Don't remember the shop at all. I started in Dumbiedykes probably mid 1956.

I find these photographs particularly interesting because I remember it quite well coming from that area.

I doubt I'm in any of them but great memories.

Thanks LB.

Probably cost was the reason, I know my lot had their reception both at the same hotel & time, my dad even made both of their wedding cakes, so that wouldn't have cost them anything for that, maybe for the ingredients at most.

As for posting a photo with someones relative in it, it's bound to happen, sooner or later, it'll happen.

My mum and dad married quite young and didn’t have much. They lived in the flats at the bottom of Calton Road (all gone) At their wedding, they supplied the alcohol, but all the presents that they received on the day were stolen whilst everyone celebrated their big day😞
