If I mind right, I think someone earlier in the thread said it was a dual carriageway at one time. Certainly looks like it and if it's not it's somewhere very very similar, although I seem to remember the central grass verge being narrower and the entrance to the stairs look different from how I remember it, however I was only 7 when we left Craigmillar in the 60's and this photo is from the late 80's/early 90's (satellite dishes), so things might have changed in that 25+ year gap. I'll send the photo to my sister, hopefully she'll remember more. Edited April 1, 2019 by Jambo-Jimbo

We lived in the bottom flat of the block nearest the camera on the right hand side, where the car is parked next to the hedge.

Sharpie
On a Sunday a family trip was bus from the Waverley Bridge go Cramond, over on the row boat, and a walk through the Roseberry Estate to Queensferry, and an SMT bus back to the Square, and a tram home. Life was simple, but life was good. Son and daughter dutifully in the front and Mum and Dad following behind. All in Sunday best.

Think it's early 60's I was good mates at school with the eldest son of the goalkeeper D Dewar in this photo (also used to go to Hearts games with him). I think @bobsharp knew him from his police days?? Pretty sure his middle son is the current CEO of Edinburgh Airport. Dougie in the photo was a golfing and drinking buddy of my father’s back in the 70s.
