Sharpie
The New Victoria was a beautiful facility in its heyday. When you entered the foyer after paying your fee there was like a lounge with tables and chairs where you could sit and wait for the show to start. Along one wall there was a place you could leave your coats, a cloakroom , and further along two toilets. on he other wall were a line of doors, these were the entrances to private boxes, from which to watch the movies. There was always an intermission, and Sandy Macpherson would come up from the orchestra pit and play a medley on the large famous Wurlitzer organ. It was a place oozing class. In the sixties it was the Odeon, the last movie I remember there was Sound of Music, and there were queues for the shows, all around St Patrick Square. For a bit less fancy there was the Salisbury on South Clerk Street, it closed shortly after the war and C and J Browns converted it to a warehouse. Don't think so that's a 34 bus in the picture. Back then the buses going along Queensferry Rd would have been the 18, 41 and the 20 (part route, not Sundays). On the bus stop the 20 had a red ring around it. Edited July 2, 2018 by Seymour M Hersh
