Like many other pictures on this thread, the memories come flooding back.

My dad (the most dedicated Jambo I've ever met) worked as a lounge waiter in the RB in the late 1950s.  At the end of his shift each night, I'd drive in from Gilmerton, park outside the hotel, dash in for a quick nip on the house, then drive him home talking about Hearts all the way.  Happy days.

Kind of. This is the first west approach road junction onto Lothian Road.

The junction was realigned and moved slightly  down a bit towards what is now the Standard Life building.

The building you see on the top left is the Sheraton Hotel. Were the first part of the road now is what is Clydesdale Bank Plaza / Brewdog (for younger viewers).

A cracking picture and good find !

You're right they did move the junction. Forgot about that. The original Junction seen here was opposite the Royal Navy Recruitment office. Not sure what that is now.

No idea, just thought it looked a wee bit like the road heading over the railway.

It's Calder Road. That's St Joseph's primary on the left.

Here's another view of it.  I think that's the chemist and the Co-op on the right.

Another strange one with the trams below. Maybe it’s something to do with the royal visit?  Still can’t find what your one was about.

Amazing the amount of quality stone built buildings that were flattened in the name of progress. I know a fair few were in poor state internally / not safe but the council need chased for allowing some of the disasters that replaced them.

Indeed - I went to the Boxing at Ingliston. Little did I know then but a certain Lennox Lewis won gold for Canada.

Worked as a volunteer driver at the games, sent through to pick up the athletes at Prestwick airport and take them to the athlete village next to the Commonwealth pool. Driving them to the events, had Adrian Moorhouse, Lynsey Macdonald, and an up and coming future world heavyweight champion boxer from Canada in the car, amongst others, great memories.

Does anyone else remember or has heard of the time I think it was the first flats being built in the Pilton area, at one point a worker walked on to the balcony they all had and it collapsed as did the others it hit on the way down. I seem to recall they had been installed the wrong way, obvously, probably upside down. Quite a story in the papers of the day, with pictures, happened pre 1967.
