Anyone else heard a section of Tynecastle being referred to as ''the ground''? And could you buy a ST there?

Yep.

That was back when Scott Wilson used to belt out at the start of every match: “This is the ground...let’s make some noise!”

That backfired a tad.

I just dipped into this discussion

The ground was the terracing

Then you had the enclosure and the stand!! I would say to my brother what time will i meet you in the ground for example!

And season tickets were for the ground or enclosure or the stand!

That's my recollection of how it was in the 70s and 80s

My first season ticket was for the “Ground” 77/78 season basically a posh name for what we called the terracing ?

i wish jj was my dad

I still refer to the ground which I am certain will be bursting at the swans next season despite Enzo's tiresome campaign to justify not buying a ST.

Wow - the last 20 comments or so really do win the ‘most boring conversation thread’ of the week award. Congrats

Enzo has been a pain in the tonsils in this thread.

However he is correct in his reference to the ground.

I still use the term yet although instead of saying I arrived at the Stadium I would say I arrived at the ground or I got into the ground late etc.

Not too many folk bothered with STs back then and those who did were mostly in the Stand.

If Enzo had one for the GROUND he is indeed a PHM imo.

Yeah we’d use the term ground as in “see you in the ground” “whats who give a feck fc’s ground called?” That kinda thing. I still use it same as you. Didn’t know the reference to ground ST’s though had never heard that before.

It's what "the club" and indeed every other club referred to the standing area. Terracing, the Shed, yes of course but the ST was for the "ground"

Never in a month of Sundays has it been called the ground

Been proved above by several posters that it was.

The ground was what I always called Tynecastle Park. Hardly anyone had a season ticket in the old days but it certainly seems to be the case that the terracing ones were called ground ones.

I've literally never heard the terracing referred to as the Ground before either.  Home end yes, School end yes, but not the Ground.

Eh no, that was common parlance way back.

At least they all had some ‘common ground’!

So no need to take ‘the moral high ground’!

Amazing how after it has been proven with a picture from an old programme that those who have not heard this terminology before still seem to think it’s not true or won’t accept the facts  just because they haven’t heard of it or that they were unaware of it.

Yeh same here, probably stems from my Grandpa. Me and my dad used to meet him at the "ground", the two of us still use it.

Only time I ever heard the term

was when buying a season ticket

eg £50 for the ground, £75 for the enclosure etc ,

Sometimes referred to as ," you got a ticket for the terracing ? "Or more often than not , "see you behind the goals."

Back in the day ..... when I first started going (and also when I bought my first ST),

at Tynecastle Park there were three areas;

1. THE GROUND - entry through one of three banks of turnstiles ( McLeod St, Gorgie Road & Wheatfield St) once in freedom to roam anywhere!

2. THE ENCLOSURE - although split North & South there was actually a ‘bridge’ over the players tunnel which facilitated transition from end to end

3. THE STAND - split, North, Centre & South - once in stay in the section you entered

That’s how I remember it too. It was the days when we congregated behind the goals and changed ends at half time. If we were feeling flush we went to the enclosure but on special occasions we were taken to the Stand. When we got older we graduated to the shed where the gorgie aggro/singing section was. Changing ends usually involved running the gauntlet of opposite fans as we passed each other. Those were the days with pish running down the terrace as the toilets were like the black hole of Calcutta. I can smell the atmosphere now

Changing ends at H/T was great fun.

That wee bus shelter they had behind the goal at ER was mental on Derby day as well .

Many a heated encounter as one set of fans met the other set of fans changing ends.

Health and Safety gtf?

As I said later, the period they were talking about was before my time, I only remember the end of the terracing period. I can accept there were different terms in use before then

Bazzas right boot

Used to call the whole stadium the ground.

I'll meet you outside the ground for a pint at Robbie's etc.

Seems to be allot of folk talking about respect here on here, all posters should  heed these wise words.

Obviously there hazs been alot of talk about Hibs ticket sales and Aberdeen seem to be doing well (by their standards). But what of the rest of the league?

Have Kilmarnock seen a jump in sales? Motherwell?

Not really, there's no OAP or kids' discount in the centre of the stand maybe?

There does appear to be a pattern of higher daily sales now than there was a couple of weeks ago. Hopefully it'll continue through to the start of the league season.
