Whats the European seeding accumulator to get favouriting on livescore tonight then? Top work Statto

Edit: if we win the first round as a seeded team, and we know we are going to be seeded the 2nd round, does that mean we can nail down a date for the home/away legs the second round or will it still be luck of the draw?

As far as I can tell, the 1st and 2nd round ties are drawn on the same day,the 20th June. If that is true, not only will you know when the home and away legs are( assuming no changes because of two ties in the same city on the same day) you will also know the opposition and therefore the destination to within 2 teams.

Statto you can maybe cross check this for me but looking at last years competition the difficulty in reaching the group stage from the first round qualifiers is there to see.

Off the 51 teams who got through the first round, only 9 made it to the play off round and only 2 made it into the group stage and neither of those 2 won a single game in the groups. Shows how tough it is to stay in Europe past Christmas now, UEFA have manipulated it perfectly so all the bigger teams/countries get bigger slice of the pie.

Twitter saying Aarhus fans celebrating scoring the second goal ran in the pitch with flares and game abandoned. If that's right they'll maybe get kicked out the cup

Edit. Now getting a full time notification suggesting game was restarted and finished.

Never a dull moment in the Hearts European thread

So is it Aarhus v Copenhagen in the final?

I was talking to a Man City fan at work yesterday and he was making the same point about the Champions League.  It is so weighted towards the best leagues that the qualifying process is a bit of a farce and, despite dozens of teams that play in the early rounds, only 5 champions from the wee leagues (any league outside the top 12) can make it all the way through to the groups.

I decided to have a look back over the years to see how the numbers have changed. The Europa League started in 2010-11. In it's 6 seasons, only 6 teams have made the group stages from the first qualifying round. The first 5 seasons, the structure was different to what it is now. More of the bigger teams entered directly into the Play Off round which decreased the likelihood of smaller teams making the groups, (now, no team enters the Play off round directly) Of the 4 teams that made it all the way from the 1st round to the group stages in the first 5 seasons, 3 of them had been entered through the fair play spots, now these are no longer given, meaning in the first 5 seasons, only 1 'small' team made it all the way, Rosenborg in 2012-13. After UEFA made the changes to the access list last season, as you said, 2 'small' teams made it through, which is an improvement on the previous 5 years and now there will be no 'bigger' teams crawling into the 1st round through the fair play system which is another advantage to the smaller clubs that enter the 1st round.

I agree that the structure of the European competitions is centred around the self preservation of the bigger clubs, however to be fair to UEFA, the changes that they have made in the last couple of seasons has given the smaller clubs a better change of making the group stages.

Today's games - Friday 22nd April.

Rampant Maroon - want them to win

Bottle green - want them to Hibs it

Czech Republic

Mlada Boleslav v Sigma Olomouc, 7.15pm kick off

We need Slavia Prague (5th), Zbrojovka Brno (6th) or Slovacko (7th) to finish 4th/5th depending on the Cup winner. Mlada Boleslav currently 3rd, 8 points ahead of Slavia with 5 games to go,  a win would be nice to extend the lead but it's not crucial.

Poland

Zaglebie Lubin v Ruch Chorzow, 5pm kick off

We need Lech Poznan to finish outside the top-4 and lose the Cup Final, they're currently 7th, 2 points behind 4th with 5 games left. Zaglebie Lubin are 6th, above Poznan on GD. A Zaglebie Lubin win moves them 3 points clear of them. A Ruch Chorzow win isn't terrible either, they would go 2 points ahead of Poznan with a win. A draw is probably the least favourable result.

Legia Warsaw v Cracovia Krakow, 7.30pm kick off

We need Legia to win the league, they are currently 3 points clear with 5 games to go.

Denmark

Midtjylland v Odense, 5pm kick off

We need SonderjyskE to finish 2nd/3rd or 4th depending on the Cup winner. They're currently 2nd, 1 point ahead of Midtjylland in 3rd, a draw would be the best result or a Midtjylland win which would keep Odense (6th) 6 points behind SonderjyskE.

Scotland

St Johnstone v Aberdeen, 7.45pm kick off

We need Celtic to win the league, Aberdeen are 8 points behind with 5 games left, St Johsntone win to prevent Aberdeen closing the gap.

Azerbaijan

Qarabag v Inter Baki, 4pm kick off

We need Qarabag to win the league, they're currently 10 clear at the top with 6 games left.

St Johnstone v Aberdeen will be on BT1 and all other games will be streamed on bet365 if you are interested in watching some Friday football.

Legia Warsaw are the big one tonight, it's close at the top of their league, a win is vital.

Yes that is my understanding too. So at least on the 20th of June we will know if our away game is going to be on the 14th or 21st of July and it'll be 1 of 2 destinations, baring an absolute disaster the first round. I guess that gives a little time for planning.

FT in 3 of the games;

Qarabag won 2-0, puts them 13 clear at the top with 5 games left, 2nd has a game in hand.

Midtjylland won 2-0, not the worst result for us.

Zaglebie Lubin won 4-1, 3 points ahead of Lech Poznan.

Since I put a cheeky tenner on Aarhus and BTTS I wonder if I get a refund now.

What is cheeky about a tenner?

Never been to an away european match but this season im definately going to try and get to the first round match if thats where we enter the competition

Just a question is it the norm that we get allocated tickets or is it a case of the fans just turning up?I know liverpool and spurs was ticket allocation but what about when travelling abroad?

It varies a bit depending on the capacity and popularity of the clubs we draw. Normally Hearts will get an allocation and encourage people to buy through the club. That's fine if you like to be sure and safe - bit like buying a package holiday. However tickets tend to be at a premium price, and travel with the club, other than the famous Douglas Parks buses to Paris St Germain, has been very expensive.

I've been to around 7 away European trips and never bought a ticket through the club (I went to hospitality for Spurs). Never had the slightest problem buying locally. I would say though that I have usually travelled to arrive on the Friday/ Saturday of the games and made a week of it. I'd recommend this if you can do it - it's great to take in a Saturday game by the team we are playing and catch the local atmosphere before the Hearts take over the town.

To give an example I arrived the week before our Atletico Madrid game, watched their Derby with Real and also, a few days before the game went to the ground to get tickets and full size copies of the posters for our game which were up on billboards in the town. When I arrived there the club shop basically said 'no chance' but I played dumb and just sat on a bench in the shop. Eventually a young man in a very posh blazer and tie arrived and after a bit of hand gestures and some broken English from him and very broken Spanish from me he took me into the clubs boardroom and left me sitting surrounded by trophies. A couple of minutes later he came back with posters including one for their game with Real and some other club memorabilia and escorted me back to the shop. I asked in the shop who he was and got the answer "son of Jesus"

Turned out to be one of Jesus Gils (their club owner)'s sons.

Jesus Gil was possibly the only club owner who could out Romanov Romanov. Just to brush up my memory I read his wiki article. I got some strange looks from the cafe owner when I burst out laughing at 6.30 here in Kingston.

If you want to have a good laugh over breakfast I recommend you read this and dare you not to laugh

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jes?s_Gil

All part of the fun of following Hearts in Europe!

Been to 4 away games

Braga

Feyenoord

Basel

Liverpool

Got tickets through club 3/4 times, always safest option, only game i didnt was Liverpool but thats because I was in the home end hospitality, whilst fantastic, would have bit your arm off to be in the away end.

Didnt do tottenham as the wee man was only a few months old so couldnt afford it.

If you are considering it, i could only implore you to go, one of the best things I have done and have some great memorys.

Only regret is that I bought a feyenoord top in a sports shop that was the previous season, needless to say was not impressed when I realised, but thats what happens when you buy it in amsterdam (i was 15 to be fair)

All i will say is be prepared to be going to the arse end of nowhere in the 1st and maybe 2nd round, armenia, san marino, faroes, iceland, albania, latvia etc are all likely locations, as long as we win will be worth it

Things are ticking along nicely.

In terms of Europe 2nd for us doesn't change anything but the extra ?200,000 would be nice.

All results went our way yesterday. I'll do a big update of everything that we need on May 2nd, we'll have a better idea of Cup finalists etc by that point.

Today's games - Saturday 23rd April.

Czech Republic

Banik Ostrava v Slovan Liberec, 4pm kick off

We need Slavia (5th), Zbrojovka (6th) or Slovacko (7th) to finish 4th/5th depending on the Cup winner, Slovan Liberec are 4th, a win would increase the gap between 4th and 5th to 10 points with 4 games left, the 3 teams behind them would still have a game in hand.

Romania

Steaua Bucharest v Viitorul, 6.30pm kick off

We need Viitorul (5th) or Targu Mures (6th) to finish 5th and then Dinamo Bucharest to win the Cup. A Steaua win or draw today would mean neither could finish above 5th and we would only be waiting on the Cup Final result.

Austria

Mattersburg v Austria Vienna, 3pm kick off

We need Admira to finish 4th and Red Bull Salzburg to win the Cup. Mattersburg are 6 points behind Admira who are currently 5th. An Austria Vienna win would keep Mattersburg 6 points behind with 4 games left, although a home win would give Admira another team to possibly catch above them if they don't pass Sturm Graz, currently in 5th.

Reid v Admira, 5.30pm kick off

As above. Admira to win.

Croatia

Nk Split v Dinamo Zagreb, 6pm kick off

We need Lokomotiva to finish 4th, Split are their closest challengers, Dinamo Zagreb win to keep Split 2 points behind Lokomotiva.

Poland

Pogon Szczecin v Lech Poznan, 7.30pm kick off

We need Poznan to finish outside the top-4 and lose the Cup final, they're currently 7th, 3 points behind 4th. We want Pogon Szczecin to win, they're currently 1 point ahead of Poznan.

Bulgaria

Levski Sofia v Ludogorets, 6pm kick off

We need Ludogorets to win the league, they're 14 points clear of Levski Sofia with 7 games to play.

Slovenia

Olimpija v Krsko, 3.55pm kick off

We need Maribor to win the league, Olimpija are 2 clear at the top with 6 games left. Krsko to get anything today would be good.

Azerbaijan

Khazar Lankaran v Qabala, 1.30pm kick off

We need Naftchi Baku to finish outside the top-4/5 depending on the Cup winner and they themselves to not win the Cup. Qabala are 5th, 8 points ahead of Neftchi with 6 games left. A Qabala win would be very good.

Neftchi Baku v Zira, 4pm kick off

As above, Zira to win to keep Neftchi outside the top-4/5.

Slovakia

Senica v Trencin, 5.20pm kick off

We need Slovan Bratislava to win the league, they're 6 points behind Trencin with 5 games to go. A Senica win would give Bratislava a chance to close the gap.

Spartak Myjava v Zlate Moravce, 6pm kick off

We need Spartak Trnava to finish outside the top-4, they're 5th, 2 points behind 4th and 5 points behind 3rd placed Myjava. A Spartiak Myjava win isn't vital but may turn out to be important.

Hungary

Videoton v MTK, 5pm kick off

Paksi v Szombathelyi, 5pm kick off

Debrecen v Diosgyor, 5pm kick off

Ferencvaros v Ujpest, 7.30pm kick off

Without going into too much detail for this one, we need 4 away wins, Diosgyor to win so the home team finishes outside the top-3/4 (depending on Cup winner), Szombathelyi and Ujpest to win so they finish inside the top-3/4 and MTK to win for both them finishing inside the top-3/4 and the home team finishing outside the top-3/4. 6 points separating 2nd-6th, 2 games to go.

Moldova

Speranta v Sheriff, 2pm kick off

We need Sheriff to win the league, they're 3 points behind with 5 games left.

Zaria Balti v Dacia, 2pm kick off

As above, Dacia are top, Zaria Balti to win.

Today's games - Monday 25th April

Albania

Kukesi v Partizan Tirana, 3pm kick off

Kf Tirana v Skenderbeu Korce, 6pm kick off

We need Skenderbeu to win the league, 2 points clear of Partizan Tirana with 6 games to go.

Denmark

Randers v AaB Aalborg, 6pm kick off

We need SonderjyskE (2nd) to finish top-3, an Aalborg win puts them level with 3rd place, both 1 point behind SonderjyskE. 7 games to go after tonight.

Israel

Hapoel Ra'anana v Hapoel Be'er Sheva, 6pm kick off

Bnei Sakhnin v Maccabi Tel Aviv, 6.55pm kick off

We need Maccabi Tel Aviv (2nd) to win the league, they are 1 point behind Be'er Sheva with 5 games to play. However, we also need Maccabi Haifa (4th) to finish outside the top-4 and lose the Cup final, Bnei Sakhnin (5th) are 1 point behind them so even if they got something, it wouldn't be terrible. Although, only because we would still need a result in the Cup competition, I'd be wanting Maccabi Tel Aviv to get the league won first, this would get 1 seeding place.

Only 5 games today but they're all pretty important, one thing in our favour is if they go against us, there's still 5/6 games left in these league seasons to save us and in the 2 top-of-the-table battles, both still have to play each other in the final few games of the season.

Tirana scored in the 93rd minute to win 1-0 after playing the whole 2nd half with 10 men

Randers v Aalborg finished 0-0.

I think that's good?

Yesterdays results;

Albania, both teams at the top won, 1 game less to go, 5 left, not bad.

Denmark, Aalborg dropping points was good, still 7 games to go though.

Israel, Hapoel Tel Aviv go 3 behind top with 4 to play, they still have to play each other so there's hope, Bnei Sakhnin going level with Haifa in the league was good.

Today's game - Tuesday 26th April

Greece

Atromitos v AEK Athens, Cup Semi Final 2nd leg (0-1), 4pm kick off

We need Panionios to finish 4th in the Play off if AEK, PAOK or Olympiakos win the Cup, 3rd if Atromitos wins the Cup. Probably better if we get Atromitos out. The Greek Play off fixtures still haven't been announced.

This game will be streamed on bet365.

Not really any important games today, 2 Semi Final 1st legs in Azerbaijan and Czech Republic, we want Neftci Baku and Jablonec to not win their Cups.

The only league game today is in Serbia, we need Red Star to win the league, if they win today, they're 12 clear and 2nd only has 4 games left. Virtually sealed.
