Alien is on tonight. ITV 4 9pm.

If you haven’t seen this classic, watch it or set it to record.

Its a beauty.

I thought " Aliens" was better. Just marginally.

Mum watched it next door and enjoyed it. From what she said...

7/10

Just watched it purely from your post and as an avid golfer.

The obvious greatest golf film is of course Happy Gilmour.

This is a little beauty though and based on a true story.

It’s charming, beautifully acted, funny, sad and very very British.

Cried my eyes out at points.

Never has a sequel been so different from the original.

Like comparing cheese and Iphones.

Both brilliant but different genres with the same bit in the middle. Aliens!

Nativity

Lovely film and the chap in the Office is superb. Very low key understated character that tests him as an actor and he passes that test with flying colours. Im going to give it 10 as it really cheered me up, it has a script that adults can tap into as well so I would urge anyone that's not seen it to give it a shot

The Hogfather

Just back from Violent Night.

Imagine Home Alone meets Die Hard with David Harbour as Santa. Really, really enjoyed it. Might just be my new favourite Christmas film.

The Good Nurse (Netflix). Solid enough movie with Eddie Redmayne and Jessica Chastaine in top form. Superb performances. How the hell he got away with it for so long is incredible

A great family watch. Most of the kids in it hadnt done any acting before and most of their scenes were very loosely scripted with lots of improvisation.

We were at Thomas Land at Drayton Manor theme park a few years back when they were filming one of the later ones. It was the one with Martin Clunes and my son was chuffed that he got to see and talk to Mr Poppy.

watched the documentary of this tonight on Netflix and showed the film to be a bit out of synch.
what’s a disgrace is the hospitals knowing he was killing folk but doing nothing about it because they didn’t want sued and bad publicity all because of $$$$.
frightening. They just kicked the can down the road and he went from hospital to hospital.  Highly recommend both the film and the docu.  Hard subject matter for some though

All Quiet On The Western Front (2022, German with english subtitles)

A modern adaptation of the famous anti-war novel published in 1929.

Bloody, gruesome, shocking, bleak and claustrophobic.

9/10.

Also watched Tár (2022)
Cate Blanchett stars as a world-famous orchestra conductor having to deal with the consequences of her controlling and abusive behaviour over many years.

A great psychological drama, touching on "Me Too", cancel culture and how those in power can exploit that power in nasty ways.

A very slow burner but well worth the time invested.
9/10.

Quantum of Solace (Prime)

The worst of Daniel Craig's Bond films IMO. Messy plot and a weak villain.

Skyfall was the only half decent Danny C Bond film.

I quite liked Casino Royale and No Time to Die too. Not great, but still fairly enjoyable.

I can't even remember what happened in Spectre so it must have been pretty forgettable.

Made during the writers strike and Craig seemingly had to write half it himself.Shame it had the potential to be very good and it has Olga in it so that's a big plus.

I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a Christmas film that’s different to the usual hallmark guff.

Emancipation (Apple TV). Based on a true story. Will Smith stars as a slave who is taken from his family to aid the Confederate war effort by helping build a railway. What follows is a stark, brutal and heartbreaking struggle for survival. 8/10

The Wonder.
Netflix.
late 1800’s (or very early 1900’s I couldnt tell). A child in Rural Ireland is claimed to have not eaten for months with no ill effect to her health. Locals think its a miracle or a “wonder” so they invite an English nurse played by Florence Pugh to watch the girl to make sure its true.

Pugh is good, rest of the film is as dull as dishwater.

Hostiles

Not an ‘A’ listed Hollywood movie, and never seen it advertised in the cinema so it’s kind of slipped under the radar.

Quite brutal from the offset.

Christian Bale plays a US army captain weeks away from retirement.  His commanding officer orders him to complete one more task before retirement which is to escort an Indian chief and his family, who have been imprisoned for a number of years to a reservation, the chief has been diagnosed with cancer and not long left to live so he’s been granted his freedom.  However, the chief and the captain have history……the journey is quite brutal with many twists…………it’s a worthwhile watch.

Lost Highway (1997).

David Lynch directs Bill Pullman and Patricia Arquette in a slice of neo noir.

As it's David Lynch, the film makes absolutely no sense and is an incomprehensible vignette of images and sounds.
But Patricia Arquette looks utterly amazing and gets her kit off all the time, so it's not all bad.

I do have to admit I love JATW, but I saw it as a bairn and loved it so it does have a nostalgic factor for me. I will admit it hasn’t aged all that well though.

Watched 6 Underground the other night. Features a car chase around Florence for about 15 minutes. Brought back some hazy memories of the city. Worth it for that alone but it’s a good popcorn movie.

I liked it. 👌

Prisoners (Netflix) - too long. 6/10.

Werewolves Within (Netflix) - endearingly rubbish. 5/10.

Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleesan star in this odd black comedy, set on a remote Irish island, about a man struggling to accept being abruptly dingied by his former best pal. Slow paced and kinda sad but amusing at the same time.

Worth a watch if you enjoyed In Bruges.
