Not sure Devlins performance last night keeps other out.

A few other folk are saying the same and I’m coming round to their way of thinking. He brings an energy but hasn’t been at his best for a while. Calem or Halliday the other options if we assume Haring will start? I don’t think calem is quite ready for the hectic nature of our league but I guess the only way he’ll learn is to play.

I know where you’re coming from a just don’t see it with Devlin right now. He’s runs out of position a lot during the game and if the opposition get a hold of the ball we’re in trouble. Leaves a massive gap in middle and allows teams for a quick break up the centre of the park.

He will be dissapointed with his performance last night and will try to make amends Sun by totally committing himself. Against Killie battlers thats a recipe for disaster.

They might even decide to target him for cards.

Benched for me.

I watched a bit of the Rangers Killie game.

Killie will sit deep, play hoofball and kick and elbow anything in maroon that moves.

We will need to move the ball quickly and sharply. If we do we should be ok.

Edit - I can see us getting a penalty

If we have aspirations to build a squad of quality and avoid last yrs injury dramas then you are only as good as youre last game/s.

Dont know how you tell subs from last night that they didnt do enough. They watched that 1st half close up.

Here's a shout that I know not everyone will agree with but I'd try it. Given the options in central midfield right now and games coming thick and fast for a few weeks why not put Sibbick in there beside Haring. Atkinson has started the season well and the central defenders are set, at least until Halkett returns, so give Toby some game time

Clare

Atkinson  Kent  Rowles  Kingsley

Sibbick  Haring

Lowry

Oda   Shankland  Tagawa

Sibbick is easily as good on the ball as most of the other midfield options and can sit with Haring allowing Lowry to do what he wants going forward.

Devlin Haring Grant midfield three.

Everyone was awful last night till about 80 mins so I’m not being too hard on Devlin, who was also booked early on for a good

tackle.  Even at his worst Devlin is still often worth having in the team to stop us getting overrun.  Cf Lowry who was basically as poor in possession but also offered nothing defensively.

This is the team I would go for, with Vargas hopefully getting a good 15/20 minutes from the bench and Boyce hopefully getting half an hour.

I'd love Vargas to get a run this weekend but judging by the comments of Naismith we'll be giving him plenty of time to settle in.

Fingers crossed he's smashing it in training.

I'm expecting this to be a tough game, but our record at Tynecastle against non-OF teams in the league last season was 12 wins, 2 draws and 1 defeat, including a win over Killie. I expect that's more relevant than how Craig Levein got on against Steve Clarke.

I'd like to see him in the CM roles and not that 10 position. He was terrible with his back to goal but when the play was Infront of him he picked a couple of nice passes.

Killie at home with Haring next to him and plenty of options going forward now available is the place we need to be giving him time to get up to speed.

20 mins here it there (or away in Europe 🤣) isnt going to do players any good getting up to speed.

Agree, get the Hof further back alongside Haring with a no10 in front of them, let him see the game & run from deep

You know what? I've been against putting Toby midfield rather than CB but in the current system I'm actually coming round to it, he could be really well suited to the role with his athleticism.

I want to see Shankland and Boyce start. with support from Lowry/Oda. Keen to see what kind of partnership they could have.

Yeah unless Hof does turn out to be a great player then I feel we're quite weak at CM. Beni aside, I don't think we have that much quality in there. Still needs that box to box player who can drive forward and create.

Been saying this for a while we are fairly poor in central mid especially with Beni way off the pace at the moment.

Devlin is a bit of a bombscare at times getting silly bookings and giving the ball away cheaply negating a lot of the good things he can do.

Haring has done ok since he came back but he is slow in most of what he does and should really just be a fringe player.

Even before last weekends results, I danced Killie for top 6 and feel the weekend's result amplified that for me. That said, as long as we're not keeping one eye on Thursday and shitein out of challenges and things, I think we'll have enough. 2-1 for me, Shankland double

Could well be worth a try. Sibbick played well against Rangers in his frst game I think it was for us a Tynecastle in a midfield role.

We can always change it if it doesn't work just like Robbie used to do in these games.

Agree. Haring did do well when he came on last night but let's be honest it wasn't hard to be an improvement on Beni's performance. One decent showing and everyone has him as a hero again. Love the big guy but he is a backup at best now. We shouldn't be relying on him to be our starting midfielder every week if we want to improve.

I think we might struggle. The team doesn’t look like it is ready for the start of the season.  Looking sluggish. We haven’t had a great preseason and the late arrival of new players hasn’t helped.

Be one of those games that they sit in and look for the sucker punch. Need to move the ball much quicker or it could be a frustrating afternoon. I'd like to see Boyce and Tagawa both get at least 45 minutes but probably both eyeing the same spot in the side.

Killie will be buzzing after last weekend. They'll be organised and They'll know our weaknesses. I also expect them to be very physical looking to get a reaction from some of our players.

If we keep the head, don't panic and play we'll have enough.
