Assuming it’s Zurich does anyone know where best in Edinburgh to buy/order Swiss Francs or what is everyone doing currency wise/card? Thanks

Used to be in Zurich every fortnight for work and used my debit card for everything (public transport, food, coffees, beer etc.). On occasional times I wanted some cash I just picked up some francs in one of the many ATMs when I arrived at the airport or main station - but I’d often end up coming home with the cash untouched.

Is anyone planning to head back into Zurich straight after the game or are most people staying in St Gallen?

Thanks mate, I wasn’t sure how the charges would be on my Mastercard and thought it would easier to manage the money I took with cash but may just use my card then. Cheers 👍🇱🇻

The answer is Monzo or a similar credit/debit card tailored towards travelling. You get the full currency exchange rate for purchases with no transaction fees or exchange fees and you can also withdraw a limited amount of cash, also at the full exchange rate.

Unfortunately you’ve probably left it a bit late to get one.

Next option would be to check with your bank what they are going to charge you for foreign transactions or cash withdrawals. Some banks kind of match what Monzo do now. Just be careful with ATM’s and check the rate before you press go. You can get a really poor rate if your not careful. To be safe use ATM machines which are inside or attached to a proper bank.

Generally I’ll withdraw a small amount of cash when I first get to a place (not at the airport)for small things like tips etc. everything else I use the card for. Most places in Switzerland will also take Euros in cash but a pretty poor exchange rate would probably make that not worth your while.

Set up a Chase account.

Your card may or may not arrive in time, however, you will be able to set up Apple pay for Chase and use that.

No transaction fees, no foreign currency fees etc.

I was just looking at where the stadium is in St Gallen, looks on the outskirts of town. I would assume the Hearts fans will gather in the Old Town which is 6km from the stadium.
It also appears the stadium is basically in an industrial estate/ ikea/shops etc. Think if we had built a stadium at straiton.

The club website does have some handy info though, including that it is free to travel on public transport with a match ticket

Free ride to the game

All tickets include free travel in 2nd class in the entire OSTWIND fare network (cantons SG, TG, AR, AI, GL, SH plus the Principality of Liechtenstein) 3 hours before and after the game.

3 bus lines go directly to the kybunpark

  • Gossau - kybunpark (Arena St.Gallen stop) - St.Gallen train station (line 151)
  • Herisau - Winkeln - kybunpark (Arena St.Gallen stop) - Abtwil Säntispark (line 158)
  • Extra bus from the St.Gallen train station to the kybunpark Departure from the edge of the event on the south side of the train station
  • Winkeln train station within walking distance

A wee insurance bet for tonight

Sky Bet have Linfield at 66/1 to qualify.

£7.50 gets £495 back if the unthinkable happens.

Watching on IPTV and Zurich up 1-0 on the night. Don’t think Linfield will score 1 never mind 4.

I’m watching it on an international football channel. Kamberi also playing for zurich along with Advijaj. I’m glad the game is in St Gallen as it’ll feel

like a neutral venue. Zurich stadium looks and sounds soulless

Maybe too late but a caxton credit card. Load it with SF through a app

edit, 3-5 day lead time on their website

2-0 Zurich and Advijaj scores his second of the night with a free header from 7-8 yards out. He looks dangerous but it’s only Linfield and their marking is terrible. It’s a nap he’ll score against us after being so shite when he was here 😏

Anyone think travel will be organised between Zurich and St Gallen?

Doubt it, better off organising yourself. The Swiss have some of the best transport links in Europe, especially their trains.

Some tasty teams and nice cities to visit. Looking at the places I’d love to visit with Hearts would be Rome, Monaco and Berlin, however they’d be tough places to go to pick up points and revenue for our club. 🤞

Some tasty ties there.

Should we make it.

Arsenal

Monaco

Betis

Is quite a lucrative draw but we might struggle for points 😳

Bodo are possible opponents, that might trigger a certain poster.

Can you imagine 😭

I assume transport from Zurich is not covered?

All counties should be following the German model when it comes to integrating public transport.

People rave about it although I haven't been in Germany for more than 30 years. Mind you, the tax burden looks horrendous so you would want some sort of return. A Europe wide integrated transport system would be something to strive for. Although the UK may be excluded. It would make European trips a lot easier 😀.

Might hold off on booking the trains from Zurich to St Gallen.

Maybe if you have a match ticket you can get free travel.

Here's my itinerary for anyone that's interested:

Edinburgh - Turin 16/08. Spending one night in Turin.

Turin - Milan 17/08. Heading to Milan early. Going to do the San Siro tour before it goes.

Milan - Zurich 17/08. After seeing what I want to see in Milan heading up to Zurich where we'll be spending a night.

Zurich - St Gallen 18/08. The big day. Head over to St Gall early doors and hopefully meet up with some other fans.

Spending the night in St Gallen before we make our way back to Milan for our return flight on the Saturday.

You'd also be struggling to get a ticket for any of these games not named vs Roma.  City wise, yes, top notch.

Probably a little late but thought I would put it out here anyway.

If anyone is travelling to or close by Stuttgart then I'll have 3 spaces in my car. Leaving for St Gallen on Thu at 12pm and driving back after the game.

I forgot we have a higher co-efficient than Zurich, so provisional EL group stage includes us.

What a joke this new model is.

Take Linfield for example:

Champions League Qualifiers

Lose 8 - 1 on aggregate.

Move down and lose 5 nil on aggregate then get another chance in conference League..

How can you still be in Europe after losing 3 ****ing games in a row!

I am no expert on Euro football (🙄) but we nominate our stadium from qualifying and that’s it. We can’t chop and change.
