Victorian
Like I said earlier, it's been a cringey charade. She stuck to the tax cuts + no handouts + economic growth + free market principles line throughout. They all nodded along and voted for her. But... all the while, 75% of Tory voters support nationalisation of energy, or some other massive state intervention (which is said to be coming). So why the big flashing of knickers about a different outcome?

Except Jeremy Corbyn, obvs. Is understood. But it contradicts what Tory voters are said to actually support from polling. It could of course indicate that the card carrying elite-oids are not representative of typical Tory voters. Quite a separate entity in fact. Probably plenty saying what they think they ought to in order to cover up the fact they are Jeremy Hunts. It would be great to drill down into that polling evidence. Primarily to see if these people genuinely believed that nationalisation suddenly became a good idea, simply by fact of it being enacted by the champions of the free market economy. Nationalisation by socialists.. booo. Nationalisation by right wingers.. yay. It would not surprise me one bit.

Was catching up on the Alister Campbell/Rory Stewart podcast yesterday and working my way through some older episodes in one of which they were taking about the impact privatisation had on the water companies. Interesting listen. Plenty rehashing of the pro's and con's but the big takeaway for me was the failure and dilution of regulation/regulatory oversight intended to keep them on their toes. It's increasingly the fundamental flaw in the ideology. A market will self regulate and maintain standards to an extent in the presence of competition. In a monopoly (or virtual) it does not. You're about as intolerant and wilfully ignorant as those you seek to call out for being, er, intolerant and wilfully ignorant. Dat's Kool. I'll take the intolerant but will debate the willfully ignorant part. To loathe the Tories you have to understand them and understand what they are about. That doesn't happen overnight and it also takes a lot of absorption of their bullshit. Willful ignorance is the bit where you vote for them despite their party, in my lifetime, selling off everything the country ever owned and systematically destroying the fabric of health and social care ready for the disposal of that to their donors and sponsors. If that's the kind of country you want to live in? well 'Dat's Kool'
