Not including Ken Doherty. Are Neil Robertson and Cliff Thorburn the only overseas winners of the WSC? At the crucible.

Yep. There's a couple of other Aussies  that won it before it became a proper tournament format like now but that's your lot.

In 1952 an Aussie beat a new Zealander in the final. Apart from that no all winners were Scottish, English, Welsh, Northern Irish and irish

Mental. China could change all that.

Eddie Charlton pick one up in the 60s too?

Edit: Well I thought he had but looks like his best was runner up.

Good start. Brecel did okay but his tendency to miss chances hurting.

2 centuries and 97 for Si Jiahui. Plays like this he is favourite to win Championship. Still things to improve so if he can do that he's got a great future.

Incredible snooker by Si Jiahui. A masterclass.

5-11.

He's pretty special,  albeit he's got some occasional daft shots in him.  The overall tactical game is incomplete but he has an eye for safety.

I'm firmly unconvinced by Brecel tbh.  Si might not be getting as stern a test that he might expect in a World SF.  The other two could clobber him if they're at 100% form.

Allen looked pretty off it this afternoon

Only played 5 of 8 in the session and ran out of time.  Grim.

He should have been 7-3 up but messed it up, then had a chance to go 7-4 and messed that up.

I don't see Allen escaping from the Selby stranglehold .

Selby will frustrate him to the point where he loses his composure

Brecel was hugely unlucky twice at the start of the session and Si won 3 frames.  One more and he probably would have chucked it.  Winning the frames before and after the interval probably restored him to the match and 3 more followed.  Si evidendly prefers to pot his way,  not necessarily out of trouble,  but also towards a frame win.  He's got a safety game but is reluctant to employ it when there's a pot on.

4 ahead but it's actually on a knife edge now.  First 2 or 3 in the session critical.

Currently watching Selby v Allen : it's like we've gone back to the 1980s. Absolute boredom.

I hope the Chinese kid smashes  the winner of this tedious match.

Gotta hope that things like this, the way we treat and support the Chinese players and if the China lad goes on to win the title, can only improve relations with China on the whole.

I hope it shows we really aren’t a bad bunch. Sport has a funny way of uniting people.

Sadly, politicians very rarely play snooker at the crucible.

Well already the snooker relationship is very good. Players support and enjoy playing in China which is back on now. And the best Chinese players including Si Jiahui are based in Sheffield.

brecel into the final winning 12 of the last 13 frames

Great semi-final. Solid string of frames from Brecel, and a couple of cracking frames in the match, but he's still prone to making the odd stupid mistake. Aren't all players, though.

Nerves of steel, the lad from China. 😏

He's just young. He's going places, no doubt about that.

Seen it coming.  Even took Brecel at 3/1 before the start.  The boy might never get to another WC semi.  Hope he does but.

Selby will batter Brecel.
