The club assesses the player, if something unexpected crops up then they make a judgement call as to whether its worth proceeding with the deal. When Calvin Ramsey signed for Liverpool they discovered an injury during his medical that had gone undetected at Aberdeen and has ruled him out of their pre-season so far but they still went ahead and signed him.
