Sort of hard to see who we're going to get in:

Shankland, stumbling block with the fee. Dundee Utd since Beerschot owe them £500k still can effectively offer a lesser fee (if any at all) and just need to compete with us on wages.

Simms, wage wise and transfer fee wise too much.

If not Shankland, and if not Simms, who else could we go for?

Paterson keeps coming to mind, but appreciate folk think he's regressed and isn't the player of 2015 anymore.

Let the guess work begin, I'll go for this guy, Adrián Dalmau, freebie according to transfermarket.

Need to get a player of at least similar quality as Simms or we will be worse off than last season .

Don’t fancy Boyce leading the line with his inability to find the net recently

The young boy McGill playing on the right of a back 3 looks lost.Thought he was a midfielder?

Not only is Paterson not a very good striker, he's also not available.

It seems unlikely we'll get someone as good as Simms, but no-one knew how good he'd be before he arrived either. I'm sure we'll have scouted plenty of potential alternatives.

United waiving £500k for Shankland would be an extremely bold move. Not sure why people think that's basically a freebie for them.

Ah never mind we could always sign another defender. Bob will be chuffed.

£500k plus £15k a week is £2m over two years, we sell him for between £5-£8m seems a good investment but that’s me.

Simms was never going to be a realistic signing. Surprised that so many indulged in Hobonomics to justify signing him. Correction -  given some of the slavering posts I’m not really surprised.

If we're looking for striker rumours then I spotted someone on Twitter linking us with Adolfo Gaich the other day.

Thought nothing of it at the time, but the same person was absolutely adamant we were getting a fixed fee for Hickey rather than a fixed percentage and now that's in the press.

Gaich would've played against Atkinson at the Olympics last year for Argentina. Absolutely hates a goal by the looks of it unfortunately, although he did get a winner away to Juve.

Until Simms signs for someone else a deal isn’t dead. Same goes for Shankland.

Savage spoke before about having multiple targets for each position as you will get told no more than you will yes - so I’m sure there’s other players we have spoken to.

He's nowhere near as good as Bassey. He will move to the EPL and Souttar will partner Goldson.

Bassey is a better defender that’s a fact but I think souttar is a better footballer.

Actually forgot about him thought he was a left back

It would be silly kicking kicking about trying to wait and sign a player who is financially unrealistic.  Savage will know this.

Wonder if Folarin Balogun (young Arsenal striker) would be gettable on loan. Doesn't have Simms' physical presence but more skillful & maybe more of a finisher. Record at Boro second half of last season looks average (3 in 18) but don't think many of those were starts. Will no doubt have loan offers from Championship clubs again (maybe even bottom 6 EPL at a stretch) but if they want to prioritse game time we could be in with a shout. Would need Arsenal to cover his wages though - probably on some insane amount if Simms is on £15k.

That's the weegie filth trying to show who's boss. They've done it for as long as I can remember so no different now even with the so called millions we are supposed to be getting from European league football.

We just need to do what we always do bend over and take it dry. 😑

Yeah can only imagine. Only hope would be they see it as a long term investment to cover his wages so he gets the experience.

Neither would score 15 like Boyce did.

Boyce has his flaws but he is double the player of both of them.

We ever had a better trialist than Rudi in that Middlesbrough game?

He wasn't a trialist in that game. Rimkevicius and Schemmel were though.

Started questioning myself though. So did some fact checking. Rudi signed on the 19th and the 'Boro game was the next day...

How many 1st team goals has Pressley  scored in his career so far. You can include Scotland youth games.

Didn't ask that. Asked how many goals he had scored at 1st team level for any team. He is 20 or 21 now . The answer is 2 goals

Simms only had 8 before us

Lots of abject pant wetting going on here. What will be will be. Let’s just wait and see how things pan out. Lots of faith in the ability of our management team to get the right people into this club.

So ? You said both better than what we have now. Nothing to do with Simms. How can you justify saying a 20yr old with 2 goals is better than Boyce.

How are Paterson or Pressley better than him?

Cole Palmer (more of a wide player) at Man City would be another worth asking about imo. Unlikely as they apparently want to give him more game time this season if Sterling goes but if we can give him proper experience compared to the odd run out who knows. Maybe Liam Delap from City too. No chance he's getting games with Haaland & the Argentinian kid ahead of him. We should be an attractive loan option for at least a few of the top EPL team's brightest prospects now.

Palmer is quality. Getting him in on loan would be a superb piece of business but have a feeling they might start easing him into a bit more first team action. Anthony Gordon at Everton or Crysencio Summerville at Leeds might be good alternatives.

I'm sure they won't be short of offers fof Delap either after his performances for England U19/21/whatever - but again would be superb to get him for the season. It'll probably be up to them where he goes and if they want him playing at a decent level then arguably we could offer some better experiences than some Championship sides down south. We should put our hat in the ring. Who knows, we might get lucky.

Pressley and Neilson in the same Hearts team is usually a good recipe for success :)

Would probably take Paterson too, but not for a fee. Think Wednesday activated their option on him. For the money they'd want, i'd sooner buy Shankland.

One thing I'm hoping from tonight's game is Ross Stewart now being No 25 means No 13 is reserved for our new back-up........
