The Mighty Thor

Turns out there might be a 'tax' cut after all.

That'll bring inflation right back under control and give sop to the whining self entitled.

Good job Rashid.

Good job Rashid.

Inheritance Tax needs to be abolished and replaced with something that is harder to avoid.

When the Duke of Westminster died he paid no Inheritance Tax. If he had paid Inheritance Tax it would have doubled the amount of Inheritance Tax collected by the Government for the year.

As it stands it is people who have one asset their family home that are paying it.

A pretty big family home though, isn't the threshold quite high?

The dodge with the Duke of Westminster, I live on the estate next door to Abbeystead and often work for Abbeystead Estate, is the the he didn't own anything, the Trust owns everything, the Trust didn't die so there's no death duties.

The top rate is for only 0.5% of houses. I'm sure our resident doctor won't be affected by that. I'm also sure that won't stop him going on and on and on about those poor people maybe paying that top rate

Historic national debt and the highest tax burden since WW2 to pay it off, and all these feckin lunatics can bang on about is tax cuts for the well off.

Of all the banter, rent free in your head is definitely the most shan. Shanter, you might say.

It depends who you are, what you do, where you live, what you own and what has been passed down to you.  Unfortunately life is not always fair and no point in sugar coating it, some folk have been lucky while others cannot pay their bills.  £325k is a lot but not excessive hence why so many folk are complaining about how low the threshold is.

Well of course it depends, but that represents 80 years of universal credit - there's something wrong if that's not considered a lot of money!

Agree it is a lot of money but not hard to accumulate if in bricks and mortar for the many who are lucky enough to own that type of asset.

Depends how you look at it .

in this country we are underpaid.

And , as the BMA point out, have suffered massive wage degradation .

I blame the BofE, the markets and the banks in particular.

everything is geared to the money markets making money.

that is all .

nobody else matters.

London matters

nothing else

Until that is broken we are all rubber ducked

Thanks for the Indy sermon, Doctor.

I was at a mate's and we shared a chippy munchy box for 11.50, steak pie, burger, jumbo sausage and half fried pizza plus loads of chips and a can of juice. Superb, I'm going back.

My local went from £10 to £15 for a munchie box.

Insane.

To be fair though, mine was in Bo'ness, you'd expect to pay a premium for not being in Bo'ness.

😆

50% non Bo'ness surcharge.

After 2 or 3 months people would just moan and pay it.

I'll be going back for Bo'ness Utd against Linlithgow Rose, I think there a bit of excitement about them being in the same division again.

The wee chippy that used to be across the road from the Commie Pool did half pizza and chips for 50p when I was a nipper. We'd walk to-and-from Oxgangs to the Commie to save our bus fare for this fine Scotio-Italian delicacy. Sometimes we would need to collect some empty globe bottles on the way to make up any shortfall. Magic.

I personally know three chippes that have gone out of business down here.

One is run by a family my lad knows really well and they have been saying since last year that the industry could not survive. The price of spuds has rocketed and they can't get anything like the supplies of cod/haddock etc they used to at realistic rates and resorted to selling just "fish n chips" and that fish could be anything . Even so, they could not buy previusly unwanted stuff because everyone in the trade is buying it up.

The crazy thing is, despite "taking back control" of our seas, we don't get the fish because the licences are largely   sold  to European fishers while the UK has been relying far too much on fish from........  Russia.

Think of how much their bills must be to run friers all night.

On the subject of saving money...

Windows 11 is a free upgrade from 10, but Win11 Home is a bit limited and they're looking for 120 quid to upgrade to pro.

I found last night that there's a full featured Edu version available, and it can be purchased legitimately without anyone asking for anything other than payment. I upgraded for £11 last night, got the activation key within a couple of hours, and now have full Windows 11.

LRFC final pre-season game yesterday was away to PETERSHILL finishing in a 1-1 draw. The game had a 1.30 kick off so looking forward to all the LRFC games this year just to see how they fit in the Lowland League.
