When the Duke of Westminster died he paid no Inheritance Tax. If he had paid Inheritance Tax it would have doubled the amount of Inheritance Tax collected by the Government for the year. As it stands it is people who have one asset their family home that are paying it. Edited July 15, 2023 by Diadora Van Basten

The dodge with the Duke of Westminster, I live on the estate next door to Abbeystead and often work for Abbeystead Estate, is the the he didn't own anything, the Trust owns everything, the Trust didn't die so there's no death duties. Well of course it depends, but that represents 80 years of universal credit - there's something wrong if that's not considered a lot of money! I personally know three chippes that have gone out of business down here. One is run by a family my lad knows really well and they have been saying since last year that the industry could not survive. The price of spuds has rocketed and they can't get anything like the supplies of cod/haddock etc they used to at realistic rates and resorted to selling just "fish n chips" and that fish could be anything . Even so, they could not buy previusly unwanted stuff because everyone in the trade is buying it up. The crazy thing is, despite "taking back control" of our seas, we don't get the fish because the licences are largely sold to European fishers while the UK has been relying far too much on fish from........ Unknown user
On the subject of saving money... Windows 11 is a free upgrade from 10, but Win11 Home is a bit limited and they're looking for 120 quid to upgrade to pro. I found last night that there's a full featured Edu version available, and it can be purchased legitimately without anyone asking for anything other than payment. I upgraded for £11 last night, got the activation key within a couple of hours, and now have full Windows 11. www.keyingo.com 👍
