I have watched him a few times and was a decent player for them in championship and not scared to get stuck in but would hope we would be a bit more ambitious with singings and think he has at least another 3 years on his contract so think money would be better spent elsewhere. Not sure we have one in the squad unless young Hamilton can step up and play in there. Mick Smith is the only other option for a protector type role in midfield, really (I don't go with the chat of Souttar or Halks in there - let them forge a partnership at the back). Irving, Cochrane, Smith, Clare, Walker, even Naismith all useful but different types of midfielder Not saying Butcher is the choice, but I do think we need a bit of steel in there and it may have been what we lacked most of all last season (except goalie). The 2-2 game at St J was the perfect example of this - totally dominated them first half, then Toby Sibbick took ill and we just collapsed - yeah the goalie chucked a couple in, but we just couldn't stop them running over us for probably 30 mins of the second half. Have Dunfermline said we offered money for him? They have no reason to hide the facts, if we did.
