To be fair I don’t have an issue with Stendel not wanting someone, I Completely disagree with him but he’s paid to make those decisions. Imo with gorgon in goals we would have had more points.

Even with Gordon in goal we'd have had more points/lost less goals, but the 'gorgon' would have frightened the living daylights out of most forwards :)

The goalkeeper situation definitely cost us. Couldn’t make a keeper out the three of them.
Honestly I need ignored on Gordon or Phressley anyway.
Im a bitter man

Out of interest. Which goalkeepers in Hearts history do you consider ‘legendary’ and what did they do for Hearts that Craig Gordon didn’t?

I remember raging about Mahe signing from Celtic and within half an hour being won over. Previous clubs are not relevant and as soon as he wears our Jersey he will get my support

Loved Stephane Mahe. Wished we had had him longer.

Both goalkeepers on the pitch for Hearts 4-0 Hibs semi are Hearts legends.

Gordon was linked with a move to Chelsea a few years ago so Celtic upped his contract to retain him, been offered reduced terms by them as not first choice any more

stendel liked a football playing keeper so wouldn’t have signed Gordon. Wouldn’t be surprised if Celtic up his terms to spite us

Anyone who doesn't think Gordon is 1000 times better than what we have is either at it, or have no grasp of what football ability is.

They guy might have been a pain in the backside while at Celtic, but he is a winner, and we could do with as many of them in our squad as we can get

Ex member of the SaS

Gordon was the only one I know that can run at full speed and not get anywhere, he looks like he is running so the ref can't do him for time wasting.

If you moan about bringing in an experienced keeper who is 10x better than anything we have and will no doubt act as a helping hand to young stone then I think you should maybe give up lads

Well done on what in these times is a difficult thing to accomplish but you’ve managed to post the worst opinion on JKB in 2020.

Wasn’t happy with what Celtic offered him so you’d imagine we’d be offering considerably less.
Maybe the coaching things makes it different but Gallacher has just signed a new deal too🤷🏽‍♂️

How long is Gallagher signed for? If we get a year out of Gordon and then he can take over coaching and being through Stone then that would be fine by me.

I think his unhappiness with the Celtic offer is that it is to be backup to Forster. Less money to be a backup player is a slap in the face after what he has done for them. Less money still, to play for Hearts is a far superior offer!!! Unless he is proper crocked, he will want to play for a year out two, not warm a bench.

Craig Gordon isn't a legend in my eyes, but I can accept he's regarded as a club legend.

Would be a nice change of pace to have him back. Although we need to get Stone out on loan, the lad needs to develop. And we might have trouble getting rid of Zlamal and/or Doyle.

Thanks, i'm touched.

My posts are usually some of the more sensible ones on JKB so I will take that as a bit of a back-handed compliment. At the end of the day it's all about opinions, and we all have differing ones. Final point on Gordon....is he better than what we had? Yes. Would I want him as a 1st team choice? No. Would he be a good choice as a goalie coach? Yes probably, but let's face it, Gallagher is as much part of the downturn in team fortunes as Levein and the rest of them. A nothing goalie throughout his career yet deemed a creditable coach? I look at the performances of Doyle, Zlamal and that Perreira fella and wonder why he was employed at the club in the first place. Maybe another jobs-for-the-boys situation during Levein's tenure, one of his buddies so yes, Gordon would probably be a better option in that sense.

All valid points on the here and now but when you said the only thing legendary about him was a good transfer value thats the bit that was.....well interesting.

Cruickshank, Neimi and Gordon are three of the best keepers we have ever had.

Absolute nonsense! Folk have short memories. He is one of the best keepers I have seen at Hearts in my lifetime, maybe only pipped by Niemi on ability, helped us win the cup and put in some world class saves over the years. I take it the fact that he has played for Celtic has tainted your opinion of him.

In fairness it was an amazing transfer fee, it was legendary as we've never since, or before had that sort of money for a transfer.

Like I say, it's all about opinions, individual opinions.

No. So had John Colquhoun and he is still up there as one of my all-time favourite Hearts players I've seen in (I think) 38 years since I started going. Nice try though.

Gordon was becoming one of the highest rated young Keepers in the world when he left us. Hence the £9m we pocketed, was some kind of UK record for a keeper at the time and Keane said something about his marked value being closer to £20m. We also turned down previous offers for him, possibly from Aston Villa. Giving him a new contract and knocking back the original bids was some of Romanov's best work. Injuries ultimately cost Gordon and despite playing some incredible games for Sunderland, the weakest part of his game, commanding his area, was exposed as Sunderland had the worst back line in the league. When at Hearts, a combination of Pressley, Webster and Berra rarely lost a header so Gordon never had to come off his line for much. At Sunderland he had to all game long.

The Craig Gordon seethe is brutal.

I despise Celtic more than words can say and to me they are all the horrible words that are banned on this forum but let me make it very clear, if they wanted to give me 20K a week i'd get a ****ing tattoo of their crest on my arse.

Are there many other Scottish Cup winners you don’t consider a club legend?

If we had him for a month or two before the coronavirus outbreak,we would still be in the SPL!

Other than the unfortunate issue of having Celtic on his CV, Gordon was the dream player for a club like Hearts, promoted from the youth team in a time of need, was generally excellent for us, won a cup, international representation, and sold for a fortune. The more of them we can produce the better.

In regards to the Gordon as a coach with Gallagher still here, in the article on the website about Gallaghers 1 year exstension it says

"As well as his first team responsibilities, Paul pulls double duty by helping to coach the reserve team goalkeepers and is involved in the Hearts Academy system too."

I've never heard anyone refer to Ibrahim Tall as a Hearts legend. Although maybe he is 🤷‍♂️ I remember him fondly but not as a legend.

Plus, I’m sure I read that Craig Gordon wanted to be a team coach, not a specialist goalie coach.

thats interesting, I guess its easy to pigeon hole goalkeepers into goalkeeping coaches in a way that other positions dont really have.

Stendelnator

“There are teams in Scotland I have been speaking to,” he told TalkSPORT. “It’s been widely talked about that I am in talks with Hearts so we’ll just see what happens. I’m in no rush to make my decision just yet.

“Hearts is Hearts. It’s such a huge club. That was my boyhood club and they mean so much to me. It doesn’t matter what league Hearts are in, they are still a huge club.

“You look at what they are doing off the field, the amount of season tickets they’ve sold already is huge compared to a vast number of teams in Scotland. They are still going to be a massive club regardless of what division they’re in.

“That doesn’t come into play too much. Everything that goes on will all go into my decision – what division teams are in, how many games they are playing, it’s all things I’m going to have to consider over the next few weeks.”
