That's all well and good, but deep distrust of authority for authority's sake, and the desire to see authority held accountable when it murders and violates the rights of people, is not hatred. So again, dispense with the imaginary version in your head and address what's in black and white here.

To varying degrees, seeing the power of the state used unjustly against people ought to tug at all our heartstrings; surely even the most deeply authoritarian among us have a sense of fairness within them? I don't think that's an unreasonable tack.

Now, I get that, but you have just regurgitated a personal hatred for the police time and again without the slightest hint or acknowledgement of the difficulty of thier position. I totally get the distrust, I do, but you absolutely cast EVERY Police officer in the US as the Devil, and you know this isn't the case!!

I have as every bit the same sense of fairness as you, and others, but casting every police officer and force as "evil"is wrong and a big part of the problem, imo of course.

Oh, far from it. I can be an utter utter *****. I try not to be, and I prefer not to be. I just dislike reading jaked up rightwing arseholes slavering horseshit, as though they are somehow more important than everyone else. You get a lot of that in the Shed these days.

Like I said, I remember now why I generally try and avoid reading it. There’s good folks who post here too, right enough. Wouldn’t want to tar everyone with the same brush, eh?

Anyway. I’ll leave you to your angry drink fuelled rants, and inevitable apologetic soul-searching hangover

Dont suffer hang overs.

And I always search my soul.

Only way to be .

I'm sober tonight .

But you do have a point.

See, in a perfect microcosm of what I was just saying, you didn't read what I said, and again immediately played the man. What I asked you was, if you knew the percentage of crimes police prevented or stopped. Not arrested the perpetrators after the fact, not prosecuted, but how much prevention and stopping of crime the police are actually responsible for.

I don't have any numbers in front of me. I'd venture to guess it's a fraction of a percent, but that's admittedly completely off the cuff.

The broader point of that question was to challenge the entire idea in your mind that you've never deconstructed—that police are even necessary in the first place. I'm not saying they aren't, but you make clear, every time, you've never thought about it. Even the very concept of police has only existed for a little more than a century and a half or so.

There are other alternatives. But your instant reaction is to pigeonhole and paint the entire premises of arguments sometimes, as black and white issues. That's not anyone else's fault but yours.

See, you just presume you're the only one who thinks about anything!!! This self righteous  sanctimonious attitide of yours shines through!!

I'd love for a police force "not to be necessary" but that is completey "Pollyanna"

You say that I "instantly pigeon hole and plant"!!!!

You honestly can't see you do the exact same?

Again: Have I? Or have I been talking about systemic issues as a whole, speaking of police behaviour broadly, and you have created an entire other idea out of whole cloth, based on that?

I worked as a lawyer. This included criminal defence. I've met many police officers, and I've met many prosecutors. By and large, I am not a fan of either, because I watch them work in concert not to find the truth—but to get convictions and plea deals, whether the person they've arrested is actually guilty of anything or not. I watch their supervisors defend egregious behaviour on their parts and protect those who engage in it. I watch judges give them every benefit of every doubt, even when they violate procedural and substantive constitutional rights of accused people. And I watch juries believe police officers like automatic clockwork even though they lie, routinely, on the witness stand, a practice police themselves coined a term for: "testilying".

And then, there are the cops and prosecutors I do like. They're genuinely interested in seeing justice served, and they're lovely people. However, even they don't do much to change the bent systems they work within, either because they can't, they won't, or if they try, they'll be disciplined or fired.

Just now, Dawnrazor said:

No. I am pointing out a fault I perceive in you, and you alone, and which by replying like this you demonstrate is true about you, time and again: That you are a reactionary. It has nothing to do with me presuming anything. It's concluding based on the evidence you keep providing.

I might and I'm open to the idea that I might. Have you ever taken literal hours, as I patiently have for you—and am doing again—to try to explain in what way you think I've done that? Or have you always instantly posted like this, without saying how or why, every single time?

Ah yes, it was definitely not that you googled "immigration form filling help" and didn't actually read the link that came up in your results . . . rather it was your world-class sarcasm, unapprehended by Americans the world over. Or well even, just me. My mistake.

The pure performativeness of stuff like this has been roundly criticised from the start.

Great for winding up and outing racists, and little else. Certainly does nothing to provide tangible benefits or spur progress on these issues.

Why would the not take a knee?

It doesn't cost them anything and only takes a moment.

Useless virtue signalling it may be, but it's no skin off their nose to do it.

Refusing to do it leads to suspicion that they are against equality.

Silly boys.

Chicago, Detroit, Minneapolis and the rest of the downtrodden ripped out cities of execution are controlled by who?

Injustice to Black’s look no further.

BLM, peaceful protest equates to violent delinquency.

Either way, the few folk responding to that with death threats is tragic. Yes, even more tragic than the attempt in this thread to point to that fringe, mental behaviour as if it's typical of the whole group.

Meanwhile, this kneeling business did nothing to prevent police officers from needlessly making Jacob Blake into a paraplegic.

It's pathetic! If I seen racist abuse in my life, taking a knee would be the last thing on my mind. Giving a knee to the ***** baws.

I'm just sick of this mob calling everyone a racist. The fascists who masquerade as anti fascists.

I’ll say it again. BLM is doing a lot more damage to race relations than good.
It has been hijacked by people who want something for free and are smashing you over the head with it if you don’t do as they demand.
It’s about the most blatant and outrageous racist movement I’ve ever seen backed by violence and a scared and compliant media.
Don’t take a knee and receive death threats now? FML get this shit in the bin now. Enough.

It’s blatant. They're a bunch of anarchists who want the destruction of authority. And most want to have money for nothing.

The way things are going these drug dealing murderers will be free to do as they please. Hopefully it's the enabler's hooses that they visit.
