Look, I'm not a fan of the inequality that such a system will produce as we know it will not affect the affluent as much as other parts of society. I also feel that it is discriminatory against sensible younger people who have a much tougher decision to make - which is probably impounded by the government themselves doing a risk calculation on their behalf for the Astra-Zeneca vaccine v catching covid-19.

But you know we used to ferry people off to sanitoriums if they had infectious diseases - people, as part of a functioning society still have to play their part with some responsibilities and conditions that come with that. Those people who actually went out on demos wearing yellow stars are drawing an abhorrent and utterly facile comparison.

IIRC the idea of vaccine passports or some form of proof that you'd had a vaccine (assuming that a vaccine would be successful) was being mooted back in March/April last year.  Which also IIRC was weeks/months before the idea started to appear on the conspiracy websites.

Summary

• 1,237 new cases of COVID-19 reported [-70; down from 1,735 a week ago]
• 18,180 new tests for COVID-19 that reported results [-5,677]
  • 7.5% of these were positive [+1.4%]
• 0 new reported death(s) of people who have tested positive (noting that Register Offices are now generally closed at weekends) [-11]
• 64 people were in intensive care yesterday with recently confirmed COVID-19 [+4]
• 480 people were in hospital yesterday with recently confirmed COVID-19 [+2]
• 3,997,105 people have received the first dose of the Covid vaccination and 3,079,492 have received their second dose [+2,222; +15,051]

Please note that PHS have not received data from NHS Tayside laboratories since 16.50 on 23/07/2021. PHS are currently working with NHS Tayside to resolve this issue.

Either way, people dig further into this and, as the US's unbelievably polarised politics shows, its hard to extricate the vulnerable and gullible who are played and conned into following this stuff - flat earth and simple anti-masks or vaccine hesitancy is capitalised on, with the more subtle conspiracy crap used as a gateway in.

There's serious money behind this and it is a threat to the stability of western democracies.

not sure about the current position but it was reported fairly recently that there was a disproportionately low uptake of the vaccine within some of the BAME communities - if this continues and the requirement of a vaccine pass does become more widespread that will be more barriers and less opportunities for communities already facing some genuine discrimination
